  • Bon-Ton bolsters board

    The Bon-Ton Stores has elected Daniel T. Motulsky to its board of directors.

    Motulsky was a managing director and global head of consumer & retail of Lazard from 2000 to June 2014, having joined the firm in 1998. Lazard is a global financial advisory and asset management firm that engages in investment banking, asset management and other financial services primarily with institutional clients.

  • Havertys net income stays flat in Q2

    Atlanta – Havertys reported essentially flat net income growth in the second quarter of fiscal 2014. Net income was $4.82 million, compared to $4.83 million in the second quarter of the prior fiscal year.

    Net sales rose 2.5% to $175.13 million, from $171.11 million. Same-store sales climbed 3.2%.
     

  • Brian Cornell named chairman and CEO at Target

    Retail and consumer products veteran Brian Cornell was named chairman and CEO at Target to fill two of the three roles previously held by the company’s former top executive Gregg Steinhafel.

  • Whole Foods to expand loyalty, marketing, home delivery

    Austin, Texas – Whole Foods plans to expand its loyalty, marketing and home delivery programs. In a conference call with investors, co-CEO Walter Robb said Whole Foods will launch its first national marketing campaign in fall 2014, with a focus on how the retailer is better and different than its competitors.

  • Reebok grows FitHub footprint in NYC’s Union Square

    Global fitness brand Reebok is expanding its retail footprint in New York with a new 3,070-sq.-ft. FitHub in Union Square.

    Reebok first unveiled the new retail store concept at a pilot location in New York’s 5th Ave., in 2012, and has since expanded throughout the city with locations in the Upper East Side; Paramus, N.J.; and White Plains, N.Y.

  • Survey: J. Crew tops in June online customer service

    New York – J. Crew was ranked number one for overall online customer service in June 2014. According to monthly benchmark analysis from customer service analysis provider StellaService, J. Crew ranked first in phone support, 10th in email support and 12th in returns.

    J. Crew last topped the rankings in January, but is one of only six companies to remain within the top 25 since that beginning of the year.

  • NCR taps new head of retail solutions division

    NCR Corporation, a leading global consumer transaction technologies developer, has appointed Michael Bayer as SVP and president of the company’s retail solutions division. Bayer will report to NCR chairman and CEO Bill Nuti.

  • Whole Foods misses sales and comps; Q3 profit edges up

    Austin, Texas -- Whole Foods Market reported that profit for the third quarter rose to $151 million from $142 million last year, but revenue and same-store sales missed projections, sending the organic grocer’s shares downward.

    Revenue rose to $3.38 billion from $3.06 billion, shy of the $3.39 billion expected by Wall Street. Same-store sales rose 3.9%, well short of the estimated 4.9% gain and marking the worst performance in at least 14 quarters.
