Debra Berman, former chief marketing office of J.C. Penney, is joining Yahoo in the new position of senior VP of consumer marketing, effective July 6.
"In this newly created role Debra will oversee product marketing, help drive audience engagement and lead consumer brand strategy," Yahoo chief marketing officer Kathy Savitt wrote in a company blog post on Friday.
Berman was appointed senior VP president of marketing at Penney in the summer of 2013. She was part of CEO Mike Ullman’s rebuilding efforts in the wake of former CEO Ron Johnson’s departure. She resigned from her position in March 2014.
Prior to Penney, Berman was with Kraft Foods Group, where she was VP, marketing strategy and engagement, directing global brand strategy and customer engagement for all Kraft-owned brands and leading Kraft's marketing communications Center of Excellence.
Before joining Kraft in 2009, Berman worked for various ad agencies.
