Walmart takes a bite of Twilight popularity
BENTONVILLE, Ark. Walmart is gearing up for the anticipated DVD release of "Twilight," the most pre-ordered movie in Walmart history. The retailer opened its "Twilight Shops" across the chain and will host blood drives in select markets. More than 2,400 midnight parties will be hosted by Walmart's 24-hour stores nationwide for the midnight DVD release.
"We know this is unlike any other DVD release in our history, and we want to deliver a memorable event and store experience for teens and adult fans everywhere," says Greg Hall, VP merchandising, Walmart Entertainment.
Tying in with the vampire theme, Walmart will host blood drives ast select stores. Donors will receive exclusive "Twilight" gifts from Walmart.
At more than 2,400 Walmart stores, the first 50 people in line will receive exclusive giveaways including a custom picture folder featuring the film's star characters, Bella and Edward.
Walmart's is "Twilight Shops" containing an array of Twilight apparel, bags, music, books and accessories. Friends can also connect with fellow "Twilighters" on the Internet, to find party tips, and a free Twilight "eBite" on www.walmart.com/twilight.
