Walmart encourages healthy living with Main Street initiative

1/7/2009

BENTONVILLE, Ark. Walmart has announced Phase Two of its Operation Main Street initiative with special savings on fitness equipment, healthy food and apparel, all designed to help encourage healthy living.

"At Walmart, we're committed to offering low prices every day, not just at Christmas," said Dr. John Agwunobi, Walmart SVP and president of health and wellness. "While many are still wary of Wall Street, Operation Main Street helps families coast-to-coast save on the items they need most. From January through December this year, our customers can count on us to work tirelessly every day to save them money so they can live better."

With losing weight, exercising, and quitting smoking among the top New Year's resolutions, Walmart has launched its first-ever January Healthy Living initiative. Tagged "being healthy costs less at Walmart," the merchandise and marketing campaign includes special signage in stores and national television advertising.

Additionally, in the coming days Walmart will announce efforts focused on offering its customers solutions to living a healthier lifestyle.
