Toys'R'Us satiates 'Hunger Games' fans
WAYNE, N.J. — The "Hunger Games" craze is making its way through the retail industry, with Toys"R"Us being the latest to try and cash in on the popular franchise.
In anticipation of The Hunger Games DVD and Blu-ray release on Saturday, Aug. 18, Toys"R"Us stores across the country have opened dedicated boutiques featuring Mockingjay pins that match the one worn by series heroine, Katniss, action figures based on characters, backpacks, T-shirts and more. Additionally, fans can celebrate this release at 12:01 am on Saturday, August 18 in select Toys"R"Us stores across the country.
"The Hunger Games has quickly become one of the most popular properties in the world, and from dolls to charm bracelets, shoppers are sure to find the broadest assortment of products based on the film at Toys"R"Us," said Lisa Harnisch, SVP, general merchandise manager for Toys"R"Us, U.S. "We worked closely with Lionsgate to create a one-stop shopping destination for fans as they anxiously count down the time until the DVD and Blu-ray release."
To mark the official release of The Hunger Games on DVD and Blu-ray, Toys"R"Us Times Square will host a special appearance by Amandla Stenberg, who played fan-favorite "Rue" in the film, on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 10 am. Named for the Zulu word for power, the 14-year-old actress has modeled for Disney and has appeared in numerous national commercials.
Beginning today, the first 225 customers to pre-order The Hunger Games on DVD or Blu-ray or purchase The Hunger Games merchandise totaling $25 at Toys"R"Us Times Square, while supplies last, will have the opportunity to meet and receive an autograph from Amandla.
Additionally, to mark the release of The Hunger Games on DVD and Blu-ray, shoppers can find the following deals at Toys"R"Us stores nationwide:
On Saturday, Aug. 18, shoppers can take an extra 50% off The Hunger Games on DVD with any purchase of The Hunger Games products totaling $30.
From Sunday, Aug. 19 through Saturday, Aug. 25, customers will receive a free $10 Toys"R"Us Gift Card with any The Hunger Games purchase totaling $40 or more.
