Starbucks staying out of 2020 presidential race

1/29/2019
Starbucks is not going to get involved in national political campaigns — even if its former CEO is running for president.

Kevin Turner, CEO of the coffee giant, made the company’s position clear in a message to employees on the company’s web site. The message was posted on the heels of Howard Schultz’s appearance on the CBS news show "60 Minutes," during which Schultz told correspondent Scott Pelley he is "seriously thinking of running for president" as an independent candidate.

“Many of us will inevitably be asked if the company supports a possible presidential candidacy of Howard and what changes for Starbucks,” Turner wrote. “As a company, we don’t get involved in national political campaigns. And nothing changes for Starbucks.”

Schultz’s appearance on 60 Minutes coincided with the launch of a tour to promote his newest book, From the Ground Up: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America.
