Report: Messaging app provider tries its hand at e-commerce

Snapchat users may be in the market for a new gadget to share their pictures — a new way to purchase it.

Snap, the parent company of the SnapChat messaging platform, launched a new e-retailing site,, which highlights brightly colored, whimsical video-recording sunglasses, ReCode said.

The glasses, which launched in November, were exclusively available in a New York City pop-up shop, or from vending machines that sprouted up randomly across the country. The company used Twitter to tease where the machines were located.

To create some buzz around the e-commerce site, Snap has closed the pop up and temporarily plugged the plug on the vending machines. The site launch comes on the heels of the company filing an IPO, ReCode said.
