Olympian Gus Kenworthy heads to Petco’s Dog Days of Summer event
Petco and the San Diego Padres are opening the gates of Petco Park to man's best friend during their annual "Dog Days of Summer" event July 29, and throwing the first pitch will be Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy, alongside his famous Sochi pooch.
Kenworthy gained notoriety not only on the slopes in the 2014 Winter Olympics, but off as well, as he made it his mission to save the stray dogs of Sochi and find them loving homes.
Pet owners who’d like to attend are asked to fill in an application at www.petco.com/petcopark. For each application that is approved, applicants will receive a free dog ticket along with two complementary human passes to the game. On the day of the event, only dogs with a valid "dog ticket" will be allowed to attend and no walkups will be accepted. Dogs must have proof of current vaccinations and a valid animal license.
Gates to the Dog Days of Summer event at the Park at the Park open at 4:30 p.m., and those who arrive early will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game "tail" gate party, which will feature giveaways and activities for both pets and pet owners. In addition, a number of local adoption partners, such as the San Diego Humane Society and Labrador and Friends, will be showcasing adoptable pets. Dogs will also have the chance to participate in an on-field pet parade and pet owners who think they have the top dog in San Diego can show off their costumed pet for a chance to win a variety of prizes in numerous categories.
Once the game commences at 7:10 p.m., guests and their pets are invited to cheer on the Padres from the Park at the Park.
"This year's Dog Days of Summer event is special because we are celebrating 10 years in partnership with the Padres," said David Hallisey, communications director at Petco. "Together, we've been able to serve San Diego pet parents in unique and fun ways, and this event, which enables dog lovers and their pets to enjoy a ballgame together, is a fan favorite every year."
