Millennial moms turn to peers, online for lunch ideas

New York – As millennial moms are making back-to-school preparations that include planning school lunches, many are turning to their peers and the Internet to get ideas. According to a survey of millennial moms about their back-to-school lunch plans by online review site Influenster, word of mouth (79%) is the top influencer for school lunch shopping decisions.



That is followed by online reviews (59%), social media (57%), brand websites (43%), television (37%), news websites (16%) and newspapers (15%).



In terms of preferred retail categories for school lunch purchases, leaders include supermarket (88%); big-box retailer (81%); farmer’s market (42%); local deli (23%); and convenience store (13%). In contrast, only 7% opt to do their grocery shopping online. While this is a small percentage, it has grown significantly compared to previous years.



Further poll questions reveal that most of these women are online researchers and then offline shoppers -- 57% of them do all their researching on the Internet before they hit stores to buy the products.



In addition, millennial moms ranked the following food products as the top 10 healthy school lunch items they would buy:

4. Blue Diamond Almonds Whole Natural

5. Pepperidge Farm Goldfish 100-Calorie Cheddar Snack Cracker Pouches

7. Bear Naked All Natural Whole Grain Granola

8. Eden Foods Dry Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

9. Del Monte No Sugar Added Mandarin Oranges in Artificially Sweetened Water

10. belVita Breakfast Biscuits 5 Pack Blueberry Breakfast Biscuits
