Macy’s, New York City

12/20/2013

The windows of Macy’s Herald Square flagship are a holiday delight. The six windows on the Broadway side of the store — with themes of Dream, Giving & Sharing, Joy, Beauty, Magic and Believe — tell the story of a young boy’s dream on Christmas Eve, where he travels to a magical crystal forest complete with fairies and sparkling, animated snow.

The windows combine Macy’s signature handcrafted artistry with such state-of-the-art technology as high-definition LED screens and interactivity. Visitors can control the falling snowflakes by jumping around and waving their arms, and they can also create movement that appears to break icicles in one of the displays. The classic “Yes, Virginia ... there is a Santa Claus” story plays out in the windows on the 34th Street side of the massive store.
