HSN makes ‘Bold’ move into tabletop

5/21/2007

HSN is adding its own celebrity spin on tabletop with a line from celebrity party planner and caterer Serena Bass which debuts May 25 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the TV shopping network.

Serena Bass Pretty Bold is an HSN exclusive that sports a name reminiscent of “this master entertainer who puts fun twists on everything she does, from adding a special zing to everyone’s favorite recipes, to the way she creates beautiful, elegant and comfortable settings with a touch of drama,” HSN stated.

Born in London, Bass has a client list that includes Sara Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts and Sigourney Weaver. Her colorful tabletop line is designed with entertainment in mind.

Among the introductory products, price points range from $11.76 for a Serena Bass Amber 5-piece goblet set to $35.36 for a Serena Bass 20-piece dinnerware set made of stoneware. The first collection will also have Serena Bass patina stainless steel flatware and a Serena Bass “Completer” set including a round platter and serving bowl.

Consumers can purchase Pretty Bold products as part of the on-air promotions or online at HSN.com. Even prior to the official introduction, HSN offered a 45-piece Serena Bass flatware set on its Web site for $49.95 and a four-piece goblet set for $23.95.

While the May 25 broadcast is a kind of trial run, in the Bass case, it is less experimental than typical HSN introductions, said network spokes-woman Lisa Zupko.

“We usually test new things, but in this case, we’ve already planned the next show. We expect the line to be a big hit,” she said.

HSN expects to follow up with Bass shows in July and in the fall. Bass products will remain on the Web site, but a major grouped presentation will probably await the July television promotion in keeping with HSN practices, Zupko noted.
