Home designers honor Charles Eames

7/31/2007

NEW YORK Home designers have become so popular today that they actually build charity events around them.

Designers and design firms including Todd Oldham, Ayse Birsel, David Rockwell, Jim Richard & Kelly Bauer, Edelman Leather, Jaime Drake, Janine James, Michael Gabellini, Pentagram, Luna Textiles and Maharam will participate in a centennial celebration of Charles Eames birth on Aug. 22 that will include a fundraising effort built around Eame's famous lounge chair.

The designers will put their own spin on the traditional Eame's chair with their contributions auctioned off to benefit the Peace House Foundation, a U.S. based, non-profit organization focused on educating and caring for AIDS orphans in Tanzania, Africa.

Office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller Inc., which originally distributed what is officially designated the Eames Lounge and Ottoman, is sponsoring the event.
