Menlo Park, Calif. – Facebook has purchased personalized shopping engine TheFind.com, with the intent of making its ad more relevant to individual users. The social media giant will integrate TheFind’s functionality into its personalized ad-matching capability, rather than keep TheFind operating as a separate entity.
In a message on its homepage, TheFind said some employees will make the transition to Facebook.
“Key members of our team are joining the company and will be working hard to integrate our technology to make the ads you see on Facebook every day better and more relevant to you,” states the message. “Unfortunately, this means we will be taking our search engine offline in the next few weeks.”
In a statement to the media, Facebook focused on how consumers, as opposed to advertisers, will benefit from the acquisition.
“TheFind’s talented team has built a successful search engine that connects people to products,” said Facebook. “Together, we believe we can make the Facebook ads experience even more relevant and better for consumers. Our business is about connecting people with the topics, companies, brands, and increasingly products they care about and we look forward to doing that with TheFind on board.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
