eBay uncorks new online wine offering

5/2/2016

Wine aficionados have a new, expanded digital resource to shop for their favorite vintage.

eBay has introduced eBay Wine, a new section of its e-commerce site that features the ability to browse collectible, rare and everyday wines.

Consumers can search eBay’s assortment of more than 10,000 wines using attributes including varietal, region, price point, and price format (“buy it now” or auctions for rare bottles). Shoppers will be able to purchase wine and ship to almost anywhere in the U.S.

eBay is partnering with Drync, a mobile app platform for wine, to bring product to U.S. shoppers through Drync’s network of retail partners. This means some in-store pickup options will be available soon.

The site experience will also feature expert guides and tips by lifestyle expert Maureen Petrosky and sommelier and winemaker André Hueston Mack, highlighting seasonal and emerging wine trends and accessories.

“Whether you’re in search of wine to celebrate a special occasion, give as a Mother’s Day gift, or add to your collection of rare or hard-to-find, eBay is offering a fresh, modern way to find the perfect bottle,” said Alyssa Steele, of home and garden at eBay. “Combining eBay’s unparalleled reach and innovative platform with unmatched inventory, the launch of eBay Wine is yet another way we are providing shoppers with amazing choice and selection – for a truly unique shopping experience.”

Through its partnership with Drync, eBay is quickly scaling the size and accessibility of its wine assortment. By tapping into Drync’s network of brick-and-mortar stores, the e-tailer will be able to shorten wine delivery times and even offer some omnichannel services. This is another step in eBay’s continuing journey away from an online auction specialist and toward a full-scale retailing platform.
