BJ's 3Q merch comps up 3.9%

NATICK, Mass. BJ's Wholesale Club reported net income of $17.7 million, or 32 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2009.

For the third quarter of 2008, the company reported net income of $28.2 million, or 48 cents per diluted share.

Net sales for the third quarter increased by 2% to $2.45 billion from $2.40 billion. Merchandise comparable-club sales for the quarter increased 3.9%.
