  • JoS. A. Bank commits to improving sales trends following Q2 earnings update

    HAMPSTEAD, Md. — JoS. A. Bank customers did not respond as favorably to some of the company's marketing campaigns as they did in the prior year leading to a total sales decline of approximately 11% in the second quarter ended Aug. 3.

    The company expects earnings for the quarter to be approximately $0.49 to $0.53 per diluted share, compared with $0.83 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2012.

  • Census Bureau: U.S. e-commerce sales near $65 billion in Q2

    Washington, D.C. -- U.S. retail e-commerce sales for second quarter 2013, adjusted for seasonal variation, but not for price changes, totaled $64.8 billion, an increase of 4.9% from first quarter 2013. According to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, this figure represented an 18.4% jump from U.S. commerce sales in second quarter 2012.

    E-commerce sales in the second quarter of 2013 accounted for 5.8% of total U.S. retail sales of close to $1.13 trillion. Total retail sales grew 0.9% quarter-over-quarter and 4.7% year-over-year.

     

  • Jos. A. Bank warns of Q2 decline

    New York -- Wall Street is reacting to Jos. A. Bank’s news that it is cutting its second-quarter profit and sales outlook, sending shares spiraling downward.

    Company CEO R. Neal Black said, “While our total sales declined in Q2, we achieved stability in our gross profit margin rate. Customers did not respond as well to some of our highly promotional, high sales volume marketing campaigns as they did in the prior year.”

    Total sales declined 11% in the second quarter.

     

  • Terminix brings pest control to Canada

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Terminix has entered the Canadian pest control market with the acquisition of substantially all the assets of Toronto-based Magical Pest Control. It is the first Canadian asset acquisition for the company.

    Founded in 1997, Magical Pest Control is one of the largest pest control companies in Ontario. It specializes in commercial accounts and the property management sector, while also treating residential customers. The Toronto company, headed by president Mark Joseph, served customers throughout Ontario and eastern Canada.

  • PNC bolsters board

    PITTSBURGH — The PNC Financial Services Group has appointed Andrew Feldstein to its board of directors. Feldstein is co-founder, CEO and chief investment officer of BlueMountain Capital Management, LLC.

    "Mr. Feldstein brings a reputation for innovation and additional risk management expertise to the board," said PNC executive chairman James E. Rohr. "His vision and experience should benefit PNC as we seek to grow our business and further strengthen our balance sheet."

  • Tiffany affirms corporate responsibility

    New York -- Tiffany & Co. today released its annual Corporate Responsibility Report, which affirms what the retailer says are efforts to positively improve the entire jewelry supply chain. This includes promoting responsible mining standards and increasing awareness about critical issues affecting the industry, such as the environmental concerns surrounding the development of the proposed Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay, Alaska.

  • NRF holds retail roundtable

    The National Retail Federation and the Retail Association of Nevada hosted Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., at a retail roundtable discussion. More than a dozen community retailers and small business owners gathered to address the industry’s challenges and public policy priorities.
