  • Things Remembered taps former David’s Bridal exec as CMO

    Cleveland -- Personalized gifts retailer Things Remembered announced the appointment of Catalina Maddox-Wagers to senior VP, chief merchandising and marketing officer, effective Sept. 3.

    Maddox-Wagers previously served as executive VP and general merchandising manager for retailer David’s Bridal. In her new role, she will further evolve the Things Remembered brand in product development, brand marketing, in-store and online merchandising,

  • That’s the ticket — Target joining video revolution

    Target’s entry into the world of video streaming with a service called Target Ticket is said to offer instant access to 15,000 titles and serve as an alternative to the Apple’s iTunes, Walmart’s Vudi and Netflix.

    The service will work with Windows, Xbox, Android and Apple devices and was tested with Target employees, according to published reports. A roll out is said to be imminent with content providers including, ABC, AMC, CBS, CW, Fox, FX, HBO, The WB, NBC, Showtime, Starz and USA.

  • Organic items added to Target’s HBC offering

    Two hundred Target stores will begin offering the EveryOne brand of organics and all nature health and beauty items from EO products.

    The company bills itself as theoriginal and ultimate essential oil based personal care company and said its products are designed to meet the increasing demand for healthy body products at a great price. Target will offer EO’s EveryOne Soap in Citrus + Mint, EveryOne Soap in Coconut + Lemon, and EveryOne Lotion in Coconut + Lemon in a 32 ounce pump bottle that retails for less than $10.

  • Dollar General beats estimates with record results

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. – Dollar General reported record net income and sales for the second quarter of this year. In addition, same-store sales growth beat analyst estimates by almost a full percentage point.

    Net income increased by 15% to $245 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2013, compared to net income of $214 million in the second quarter of the prior fiscal year. Net sales increased 11.3% to $4.39 billion, compared to $3.95 billion in the second quarter of the previous year. Analysts had expected net sales of $4.36 billion.

    SAN JOSE, Calif. — VeriFone Systems has launched GlobalBay Merchant, a point-of-sale software platform and support infrastructure designed to help ISOs and acquirers provide tablet POS solutions to small and medium businesses.

  • RetailMeNot: Online, mobile coupon use explodes

    Austin, Texas – U.S. consumers are dramatically increasing their usage of online and mobile coupons. According to the latest Shoppers Trend Report from RetailMeNot and The Omnibus Company, while printable coupons remain the most widely used type of coupon (60%), online coupon usage has nearly doubled (29% compared to 16% three years ago) and mobile coupon usage has nearly tripled in the past three years (10% compared to 4% three years ago).

    Ninety-two percent of consumers use some type of coupon. Other notable findings include:

  • Mixed bag for Francesca’s Holdings’ second quarter

    The opening of 79 new stores drove overall second quarter sales growth at Francesca’s Holdings, but same store sales declined, profits were less than forecast and the company lowered its expectations for the full year.

    Despite the slight decrease in same-store sales, the company grew its net income 15% to $14.6 million, from $12.7 million, while net sales rose 17% to $89.6 million.
