  • El Corte Ingles expands Grability mobile platform into Portugal

    Madrid – Spain-based European department store chain El Corte Inglés will launch a mobile shopping platform for its Portuguese market powered by Grability technology. Since launching Grability in December 2014 for the Spanish retail market, El Cortes Inglés says it has experienced a surge in mobile grocery sales, as well as customer enthusiasm for the new platform.

    According to El Corte Inglés executives, Grability has also helped position the company as the most innovative online grocer in the countries it operates.

  • Fashion industry vet to lead design for West Elm

    Home furnishings retailer West Elm has named a new senior vice president of design for its retail, catalog and online channels.

    The company says Johanna Uurasjarvi will lead the product design team and report to West Elm President Jim Brett.

    Bringing more than 20 years of fashion design experience and a lifetime of passion for design and global craft, Uurasjarvi joins West Elm from the lifestyle brand, Anthropologie, where she was the executive creative director of product design.

    Texting and checking social media sites aren’t on any retailer’s job description for store level hourly positions, but those and other Internet-enabled activities are sapping the productivity of workers, according to a CareerBuilder study.

    The study of 2,175 hiring and human resources managers didn’t look just at the retail industry, but who hasn’t been in a store and seen a smartphone obsessed employed distracted by their device to the detriment of customer service.

  • Starbucks to shutter one of its retail concepts

    Seattle – Starbucks Corp. is taking the bakery store brand it acquired in 2012 in house. The coffee giant said it plans to close all 23 La Boulange retail (bakery café) locations, as well as the two baking facilities serving the locations, by the end of September. The retailer said it determined that La Boulange stores are “not sustainable for the company’s long-term growth.”

  • Denny’s launches omnichannel ‘Fantastic Four’ promotion

    Spartanburg, S.C. – Denny’s is partnering with 20th Century Fox on an omnichannel promotion for the upcoming movie “Fantastic Four.” The Denny’s Instagram channel will be posting a series of exclusive clips for followers throughout the partnership.

  • Corner Bakery Café appoints Pepsi executive as marketing head

    Dallas - Justin Lambeth has been appointed as chief marketing officer of Corner Bakery Café.

    Lambeth joins Corner Bakery Cafe following several leadership roles at PepsiCo Inc., where he was responsible for marketing, consumer engagement and shopper marketing for the company's Quaker Division as chief marketing officer.

    Prior to his work with the Quaker division, Lambeth held the role of VP at Frito-Lay, as well as leadership roles at H.J. Heinz and Nabisco Inc.
     

  • Foot Locker races to tell a story

    Foot Locker is teaming up with ASICS on a creative campaign that tells the life story of runners on film.

    The "Real Lives. Real Runners." campaign will provide a platform for runners to capture and share their stories. Building on the successful 2014 "All Runners Welcome" campaign from Foot Locker and ASICS, "Real Lives. Real Runners." invites filmmakers to identify authentic runners and document in a short film why they run and how running impacts their lives.

  • Borderfree adds 120 markets

    New York - Borderfree, provider of international cross-border e-commerce solutions, has expanded its platform to reach more than 220 countries and territories. This expansion of scope includes an additional 120 countries and 15 currencies.

    Key emerging luxury markets Borderfree will now sell to include Nigeria and Kazakhstan. Both markets offer opportunities for e-commerce expansion due to increasing smartphone saturation and discretionary spending.

    The additional countries will be available to Borderfree customers starting this June.
