A diverse lineup of restaurant chains and retailers are among the top places to work in consumer services, according to job and recruiting firm Glassdoor.

The highest-ranking retail/restaurant chain on Glassdoor’s annual Employees’ Choice Awards is In-N-Out Burger, which took the No. 2 spot (out of 100) on the list. Crew Carwash, a family-owned company based in Indiana, took the top spot. The other retailers who cracked the top 50 were H-E-B (No.13) and Wegmans Food Markets (No. 30).

The awards, which honor the “Best Places to Work 2026” across the U.S. are based on the input of employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback on Glassdoor by completing a company review about their job, work environment and employer over the past year.

Glassdoor introduced five new industry-specific lists honoring the top 25 large employers (1,000-plus employees) in industries that include consumer services. As to what makes a great retail or hospitality employer in 2026, Glassdoor said the best ones “are helping people turn high-turnover jobs into lasting careers."

Methodology

The Best Places to Work 2026 winners were determined using Glassdoor’s proprietary awards algorithm. Rankings are based on the quantity, quality and consistency of reviews submitted by U.S.-based employees between Oct. 17, 2024, and Oct. 16, 2025. Large companies required at least 75 ratings per category.
