Michaels plans to hire 15,000 seasonal workers for the holiday season.

The Michaels Cos. is getting ready to staff up for the holiday season.

The arts and crafts retailer plans to hire 15,000 employees across its stores and distribution centers for the upcoming season. Last year, Michaels put out the call for more than 20,000 seasonal workers

In an interview with Fox Business, Michaels COO Joe Venezia said that the company deliberately decreased the number of seasonal hires this year in order to increase the number of hours available for seasonal employees.

Michaels will host a seasonal hiring event in all U.S. and Canadian stores on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 12 – 4 p.m. local time. The retailer noted that last year, it converted more than 50% of seasonal in-store positions into regular roles following the holidays.

The Michaels Cos., which was taken private in 2021 by Apollo Global Management, operates  1,275 stores in 49 states and Canada in addition to e-commerce sites. It also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise.
