Meijer is adding a new partner to its roster of same-day delivery providers.

The Midwestern regional discount chain is collaborating with the Uber Eats online delivery subsidiary of Uber Technologies Inc. to offer on-demand and scheduled grocery delivery. Through the 2022-2023 winter, nearly 250 Meijer locations across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin will be available to shop through Uber and Uber Eats.

Select Meijer locations will be featured stores throughout the Uber Eats app during the holiday season and will be included in Uber's Holiday Shop, a one-tap online storefront Uber offers for holiday essentials. Members of the Uber One loyalty program will receive $0 delivery fees and 5% off on eligible Meijer orders of $35 or more.

"Meijer is known for freshness—fresh food, fresh thinking and a focus on innovation makes them a natural partner for Uber," said Christian Freese, Uber head of grocery and new verticals across the U.S. & Canada. "We're thrilled to be bringing their fresh selection to Uber and Uber Eats across much of the country, and to be working together to deliver must-have groceries to America's doorsteps, just in time for the holidays."

Meijer partners with Instacart for groceries and more

Meijer has been collaborating with Instacart to provide same-day delivery of groceries and household essentials, as well as a broad selection of general merchandise, from nearly all stores. Categories available for delivery in as little as an hour via Instacart include home decor, toys and crafts, garden, sports and outdoor, office, and electronics.

In November 2021, Meijer expanded its partnership with Instacart to begin delivering alcohol from more than 180 store locations across Illinois, Michigan and Ohio via the same-day delivery platform.

The discount retailer decided to launch home delivery of online beer, wine and spirits orders from its stores as the service has been becoming increasingly popular (and lucrative) across the country. In addition, Meijer has long offered its own proprietary online delivery and in-store pickup program.

Based in Grand Rapids, Mich., Meijer operates 499 supercenters, neighborhood markets and Express locations throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The company is scheduled to debut a new concept, Meijer Grocery, in late January 2023.
