Meijer continues expansion of its small-store grocery concept

Meijer has opened its third neighborhood market.

The 37,000-sq.-ft. Capitol City Market is located in downtown Lansing (Michigan), on the first level of the new mixed-use Block600 development. It offers a wide assortment of fresh and prepared foods, including bakery items, fresh meat, deli offerings and an international food aisle. Meijer and national brand products are featured, along with an estimated 3,000 local, artisan items.

The new market also boasts a coffee shop with a full functioning coffee and espresso bar and a beer, wine and liquor counter.

The design of Capital City Market was inspired by the local culture in Lansing’s downtown Stadium District. The store features six garage-style doors that open to an outdoor fresh produce and floral area. One side of the market has an oversized mural of vibrantly-colored produce.

Meijer unveiled its neighborhood grocery format in 2018, opening Bridge Street Market in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

"The need that is met by the Capital City Market for the Stadium District, downtown Lansing, and the surrounding area has been in high demand for years – access to fresh, local and affordable food," said Pat Gillespie, president of Gillespie Group that's developing Block600. "Having the opportunity to play an active role in this development, with a Meijer brand that is already respected and trusted by the community has been incredible for our team and will be just as incredible for our residents."
