Mattress Firm rolls out two-hour delivery with DoorDash

Mattress Firm is teaming up with DoorDash.

The nation's largest mattress specialty retailer has a new on-demand delivery partner.

Mattress Firm is collaborating with DoorDash to introduce on-demand, two-hour delivery of mattresses and bedding accessories from its more than 2,300 store locations across the U.S.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, customers nationwide can purchase an assortment of mattresses and bedding accessories from Mattress Firm on DoorDash. The retailer says it is timing the launch of this new service to coincide with consumers preparing for the start of the upcoming collegiate academic year.

"This partnership catapults us into a new era of customer service," said Mattress Firm chief digital officer George Hanson. "We're not just delivering quality mattresses and pillows, but also a shopping experience that meets the on-demand expectations of today's consumers. Our partnership with DoorDash combines our sleep expertise with on-demand delivery to ensure Americans can enjoy better rest sooner than ever before."

Customers can order delivery from Mattress Firm via the DoorDash e-commerce site and mobile app. Mattress Firm orders are eligible for inclusion in the DashPass paid membership program which offers $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders.

In addition, real-time tracking of mattress deliveries is available through the DoorDash Android and iOS app. Mattress Firm is entering this partnership as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is challenging a May 2023 agreement for leading bedding maker Tempur Sealy to acquire Mattress Firm in a cash and stock deal valued at approximately $4 billion.

The acquisition would give Tempur Sealy direct ownership of its largest retail partner and create a combined global footprint including approximately 3,000 retail stores, 30 e-commerce platforms, 71 manufacturing facilities and four R&D facilities worldwide.

However, in July 2024 the FTC unanimously voted to block the acquisition over concerns it would give Tempur Sealy “the ability and incentive to suppress competition and raise prices for mattresses for millions of consumers once it acquires Mattress Firm.”

Meanwhile, other recently launched DoorDash partnerships include the addition of nine new grocery and liquor retailers to its alcohol delivery platform, on-demand delivery with Academy Sports and Ulta Beauty, expanding SNAP/EBT purchasing abilities at Walgreens, and delivery from Wakefern Food Corp. stores and several West Coast grocers.

Founded in 1986, Mattress Firm operates more than 2,300 stores and an e-commerce site. Founded in 2013, DoorDash offers deliveries in more than 25 countries.
