  • Home Depot building its future at Georgia Tech

    Home Depot’s efforts to advance tech innovation in retail will be getting a big boost from the company’s latest initiative.

    The retailer has partnered with the Georgia Institute of Technology to create a cutting-edge research center, focused on advancing tech innovations, education and giving young talent an opportunity to grow. The new Home Depot Technology Center will allow the company to work with more than 40 start-up companies housed at Georgia Tech.

  • Report: Kroger buys Macy’s shopping center site in Ohio for $10.5 million

    Cincinnati – Kroger Co. has reportedly purchased a soon-to-be shuttered Macy’s store located in the Kingsdale shopping center in Upper Arlington, Ohio, for $10.5 million. According to Columbus Business First, Kroger may include multifamily housing or offices in its redevelopment plans for the site.

    The Zoning Board would have to approve any Kroger redevelopment plans. Giant Eagle also operates a grocery store in the Kingsdale center. Kroger did not comment.

  • Strong holiday performance drives Starbucks Q1 growth

    Seattle -- Starbucks Corp.’s first-quarter profit surged 82% as new offerings and holiday gave a boost to store traffic. Net income increased to $983.1 million, from $540.7 million a year earlier.

    Consolidated net revenues the quarter, ended Dec. 28, increased 13% to $4.8 billion. Global same-store sales increased 5%, with a 2% increase in traffic. Same-store sales in the company’s U.S.-dominated region rose 5%, with a 2% increase in traffic, better than analysts had expected.
