  • Robots, coming to a store near you

    Yes, it’s official. The robotics revolution is coming to retail, as it is in many industries. I know robots roaming store aisles probably still sounds like something from “Back to the Future,” however, within a decade, I’m confident they will be such a normal part of the store experience we will find it hard to imagine life without them.  
  • And the Store of the Year is...

    A premium brand born from the celebration of colder climates, Mackage (Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Toronto) was named Store in the Year in the Retail Design Institute’s 46th annual International Store Design Competition. The awards were presented during a gala celebration on Wednesday, May 24, in New York City.
  • Ikea in Southeastern expansion

    Ikea is looking to open its second location in Tennessee.   The home furnishings chain plans to submit plans to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, for a store in the Nashville area. Construction of the 341,000-sq.-ft. proposed Ikea could begin in spring with an opening in summer 2020.

    Woolworths is taking steps to bolster its online shopping experience.   Woolworths South Africa, a division of Woolworths Proprietary Limited, is known for its vast assortment ranging from groceries, fresh produce and prepared food to clothing, beauty products, home goods and general merchandise. As the company entered into the world of omnichannel, it knew it had to deliver easy access to its merchandise, and provide a painless experience for online customers.  
  • Fast-casual chain reveals culprit of recent data breach

    Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming clean about a cyber-attack that targeted the chain last month.   An extensive investigation lead by leading cyber security firms, law enforcement and the payment card networks revealed that malware accessed payment card data used at point-of-sale (POS) devices at certain Chipotle and Pizzeria Locale restaurants between March 24 and April 18. Not all locations were involved, and the specific timeframes vary by location, according to the chain.  
  • Footwear retailer improves ship-from-store service

    Knowing efficient in-store fulfillment is key to omnichannel success, Browns Shoes has just taken a big step toward optimizing these orders.      Browns Shoes, a family-owned business established in Montreal in 1940, owns and operates more than 60 retail stores throughout Canada. When the retailer merged its e-commerce channel with its brick-and-mortar operations, Browns was ready to use its retail network as another fulfillment avenue.

    Amid slumping first quarter sales, Signet Jewelers on Thursday announced the first phase of the strategic outsourcing of its in-house credit program, in partnerships with Alliance Data and Progressive Leasing, a subsidiary of Aaron's.  
  • Consumer electronics giant starts the year strong; to roll out home service

    Demand for gaming and mobile products boosted Best Buy’s first-quarter comparable sales, as the retailer beat the Street on profit and sales.   Best Buy revenues rose 1% to $8.53 billion for the period ended April 29, 2017, beating analysts’ estimates of $8.28 billion, from $8.44 billion in the year-ago period. Net income fell to $188 million, or 60 cents a share, easily beating the Street and down from $229 million, or 70 cents per share a year earlier when it benefitted from some settlement proceeds.
