  • A&P optimizes merchandising strategy

    CHICAGO — Galleria Retail Technology Solutions, a provider of retail and category optimization solutions, has announced that grocer A&P has chosen Galleria to help optimize its merchandising strategy and improve the customer experience within its more than 300 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic stores.

    A&P will roll out several of Galleria’s solutions throughout its family of supermarkets.

  • Fresh Market names COO

    Greensboro, N.C. -- The Fresh Market said Thursday it has promoted Sean Crane to executive VP and COO, reporting directly to Craig Carlock, president and CEO.

    Crane was previously senior VP store operations. In his new role, he will lead store operations, merchandising and marketing functions.
     

  • Target discloses first Canada store locations

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target has disclosed the location of its first 24 stores in Canada. As previously announced, Target purchased the leasehold interests of 189 sites currently operated by Zellers Inc., and plans to open 125 to 135 stores in Canada, the majority of which will open in 2013.

    Target plans to open stores in the following locations in March/early April 2013:

    • London Westmount, Westmount Shopping Centre

    • Kawartha Lakes, Lindsay Square Mall

  • Guess implements VeriFone GlobalBay iPad Retailing Solution

    San Jose, Calif. -- Apparel retailer Guess has implemented the VeriFone GlobalBay iPad Retailing solution, from VeriFone Systems, in a dozen stores in the United States, taken the technology on the road to Asia, and plans to expand the deployment widely in 2012. The apparel retailer is using the VeriFone solution to enable consumer interaction with iPads mounted on rolling stands that serve as self-service kiosks to its online and in-store products to enhance the overall shopping experience and generate additional sales.

  • Von Maur to replace Bloomingdale’s at Perimeter Mall, Atlanta

    Chicago -- General Growth Properties announced the addition of Von Maur department store as an anchor to Perimeter Mall, Atlanta, which has sales of more than $550 per square foot.

    The department store is projected to open in fall 2012. Von Maur will replace the soon to be vacant Bloomingdale's location. Von Maur joins a retailer line-up that also includes Apple, Nordstrom, Michael Kors, Sur La Table, and Forever 21 among many others. Perimeter Mall is a 1.6 million-sq.-ft. two-level center north of downtown Atlanta.

    A&P will roll out several of Galleria’s solutions throughout its family of supermarkets.
     

  • CenturyLink provides high-speed data and voice network for True Religion

    Denver -- CenturyLink announced it has turned up a new high-speed data and voice network for True Religion. The premium denim jeans company's headquarters l in Vernon, Calif., is now securely interconnected with its 110 domestic retail stores and international retail stores or showrooms in Canada, England, Italy and Hong Kong.

  • Shopko focuses on rural consumers with new merger

    GREEN BAY, Wis. — Shopko Stores Operating Co. said Wednesday that Shopko and Pamida will merge to create one of the largest U.S. retailers focused on serving smaller and rural communities. The combined entity will have nearly 350 locations in 22 states and plans to accelerate new store growth in the second half of 2012 and beyond.

    Financial details of the merger, expected to close in mid-February, were not disclosed. Both companies are owned by affilates of the private equity firm Sun Capital Partners.
