  • Giant-Carlisle installs solar panels at two stores

    Lancaster, Pa. -- One of the supermarket chains operated by Netherlands-based Royal Ahold has installed rooftop solar panels at two of its stores.

    Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Food Stores — also known as Giant-Carlisle to distinguish it from Landover, Md.-based Giant Food, also owned by Ahold — said it had installed solar photovoltaic systems at stores in Lancaster and Pottstown, Pa.

  • POSitive Technology teams with It'Sugar for expansion

    Washington, D.C. -- POS solution-provider POSitive Technology said Thursday that It'Sugar has selected them as their POS partner to implement the Microsoft Dymanics RMS and OpSuite solutions to meet the company’s growth needs.

    Candy retailer It'Sugar plans to open as many as 10 new stores in 2012, in addition to continuous updating and refreshing of inventory to keep pace with sales and customer preferences, said the company.

  • Sterling Jewelers names COO, management shifts

    Akron, Ohio -- Sterling Jewelers said Thursday it has named Ed Hrabak, senior VP merchandising, as COO to succeed Bill Montalto, who is retiring from the position in June.

    Hrabak has been with Sterling for over 25 years, assuming increasingly greater management responsibility during his tenure.

    Sterling also announced that Stuart Lee, VP merchandising, will be promoted to senior VP merchandising upon Hrabak’s promotion to COO.

  • Cabela’s Q4 profit up, to debut new store concept for smaller markets

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s Inc. reported Thursday a fourth-quarter net income of $69.8 million, compared with $66.3 million last year. The company also announced plans to open a smaller-sized format, called Cabela’s Outpost Store, designed for markets with less than 250,000 people.

    For the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2011, Cabela’s revenue, increased 5.4% to $983.7 million, and same-store sales rose 1.7%. Retail store revenue increased 9.8% to $525.6 million.

  • Charleston Town Center announces four new upscale retailers

    Charleston, W.Va. -- Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises announced that found new upscale women’s retailers have joined the company’s Charleston Town Center property, located in Charleston, W.Va.

    White House | Black Market, Coach, Sephora and Francesca’s Collections will open spring 2012. The center will undergo an expansive renovation, incorporating aesthetic updates to both the interior and exterior of the property.

  • Celebrity stylist adds Hollywood glamour to Tiffany's windows

    NEW YORK — In honor of the 2012 Academy Awards, Tiffany & Co. has engaged the services of celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe to create a window display that highlights Hollywood glamour from the 1930s through the 1970s. 

    Zoe’s windows are unveiled at Tiffany & Co. flagship stores in New York City, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and London.

    Washington, D.C. -- A report released Wednesday by the National Retail Federation and KPMG found that retailers in 2012 will invest heavily in IT, e-commerce, customer service and mobile platforms in order to build customer engagement.

    The report, “Retail Horizons: Benchmarks for 2011, Forecasts for 2012," polled 247 retail executives from various sectors regarding their top strategic initiatives for 2012.

The report, titled, Retail Horizons: Benchmarks for 2011, Forecasts for 2012," surveyed 247 retail executives from various sectors, outlines retailers’ top strategic initiatives for 2012 including merchandising, ecommerce, store and field operations, supply chain and human capital, among others.
