  • DSW announces two stores in Manhattan

    New York -- DSW Inc. has opened on 34th Street in Manhattan, in the heart of New York's fashion district. The retailer also announced plans to open a store on the Upper West Side in early summer 2012.

    At over 33,000 sq. ft., the 34th Street location is the one of the largest in the DSW chain. It has three floors of selling space. The DSW store at 79th and Broadway will also be very large, measuring over 32,000 sq. ft.

  • Lego to open in Atlanta

    New York -- The Denmark-based Lego group will open a Lego store in Atlanta on March 16.

    The new store will be located in the Discover Mills outlet center. The space will feature such elements as a “Pick-A-Brick-Wall,” allowing shoppers to select and purchase specific individual Lego bricks in a variety of colors and shapes.
     

  • Coming soon: the beneficial effects of dissipating disruption

    The most exciting news coming to Target stores this year isn’t some new designer exclusive or enhancement to REDcard Rewards, but rather a return to operational normalcy as the PFresh remodeling program winds down. This phenomenon won’t generate the same publicity as a Jason Wu pop-up store, but the impact on shoppers and sales promises to be greater.

  • Fresh & Easy makes Sacramento debut

    Sacramento, Calif. -- Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market opened its first two stores in the Sacramento region.

    Three additional locations are scheduled to open next week on March 14.

    In total, Fresh & Easy will open five stores in the region this month, creating more than 150 new jobs.
     

  • Neiman Marcus testing personal shopping assistant app

    Dallas -- Neiman Marcus is testing a new iPhone-only app that allows customers to interact more directly with sales associates. The new app, called NM Service, is being tested in four stores this spring – Dallas;San Francisco; Austin, Texas; and Palo Alto, Calif.

    Developed by Signature, NM Service has two interfaces: one for customers and one for sales associates. Each is designed to provide a more personal, mobile shopping experience for the Neiman Marcus customer.

  • Kohl's has lots in store for 2012

    NEW YORK — Kohl’s Department Stores has opened eight new stores, bringing approximately 1,000 new jobs nationwide. The company now operates 1,134 stores in 49 states.

    The new stores are located in seven states, including Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Of the eight locations, seven are small format stores with approximately 64,000 sq. ft. or less of retail space, providing greater real estate flexibility.

  • Target adding expanded food layout to 230 stores

    New York -- Target Corp. will complete remodels at more than 100 general merchandise Target stores by March 25. The locations will be the first of three cycles of remodels for Target this year. In total, the chain expects to remodel 230 general merchandise Target stores to incorporate the expanded fresh food layout in 2012.

  • Celerant acquires CAM Commerce Solutions

    Staten Island, N.Y. -- Celerant Technology has acquired CAM Commerce Solutions, a subsidiary of Robertson Piper Software Group (RPSG) and a well-known East Coast-based retail software provider. CAM provides services for small to mid-size retailers across a variety of vertical markets.
