  • Cabela’s to deploy SAP point-of-sale application

    Sidney, Neb. -- SAP America Inc., a subsidiary of SAP AG, announced that Cabela’s Inc. has selected the SAP point-of-sale application to support its retail expansion and enhance its customer experience.

    The hunting, fishing and outdoor gear retailer will leverage out-of-the-box functionality inherent in SAP POS to provide increased customer service, as well as system and sales associate efficiency, SAP said.

  • Charming Shoppes selects Oracle Retail to drive cross-channel growth, improve inventory management

    Redwood Shores, Calif. -- Charming Shoppes has selected Oracle Retail to drive growth across its multiple platforms and brands. The retailer said it will use Oracle Retail applications to deploy a modern technology platform that helps transform its merchandising supply chain and store operations to reduce the total cost of ownership of hardware, software and support while enabling a better shopping experience for customers across channels and brands.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods to open 487th store

    Pittsburgh -- Dick's Sporting Goods will open a store in Union, N.J., on May 2.

    The Union location will be the retailer's 16th store in the state of New Jersey and its 487th nationwide.
     

  • Changes Afoot at Gap

    A friend of mine recently called to ask my opinion of the “new” Gap. She had just returned from shopping at The Grove, an upmarket mall in Los Angles, and couldn’t get over how “different” the Gap seemed. It wasn’t just the merchandise as much as the overall environment that had struck her. Everything seemed so “fresh,” she said.

  • Weiss Markets ups capital expenditures

    Sunbury, Pa. -- Weis Markets said it will invest $125 million in its 2012 growth program, a 25% increase compared with 2011.

    “Our budget includes two new stores and 18 major remodels,” Weis Markets vice chairman Jonathan Weis said. “In addition, we expect to soon complete the purchase of three Genuardi's units near Philadelphia which we hope to reopen later this summer.”

  • Visual merchandising firm sues J.C. Penney

    New York -- Hudson + Broad, a New York City-based visual merchandising firm, is suing J.C. Penney Co. for $40 million. H+B is seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and an additional $20 million in punitive damages.

  • Parmida Home debuts in Virginia

    Fredericksburg, Va. -- Youngstown, Ohio-based Cafaro Co. announced that Parmida Home will open a new store at The Village at Towne Centre, near Fredericksburg, Va.

    The 6,900-sq.-ft. store is slated to open in early November across from Sephora.

    The Village at Towne Centre is the outdoor shopping district of Spotsylvania Towne Centre, a 1.7 million-sq.-ft. complex offering more than 120 department stores, specialty shops, restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues.
     

  • Safeway profits up in Q1, opening more Lifestyle stores

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway's first quarter net income rose to $81.6 million, from $25.1 million in the year-earlier period. Sales edged up 2.4% to $10 billion, from $9.8 billion last year. Same-store sales were flat.
