  • Alco Stores taps OrderMotion to provide automated back-office order management

    Burlington, Mass. -- OrderMotion, a web-based platform for direct-to-consumer (D2C) campaign and order management, announced that Midwest consumer goods retailer Alco Stores selected OrderMotion's OMX platform as the back-office technology best suited to grow with its online volume demands while also leveraging its Magento eCommerce front-end system.  

  • Wal-Mart sued by disabled over hard-to-reach payment machines

    San Francisco -- A federal lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. was filed on Wednesday, by disability rights advocates claiming that payment machines are inaccessible to California customers in wheelchairs and on scooters.

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop narrows loss in Q2; focused on new store design and global growth

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop reported Thursday a loss of $8.3 million for the quarter ended June 30, compared with a $10.7 million loss in the year-ago period.

    Retail sales dipped 1.8% and same-store sales declined 1.7%.

    Chief executive bear Maxine Clark said she is focused on the future. “In just over a month, we will open our first newly imagined store design in St. Louis with five additional stores opening in major U.S. markets in the following weeks.” 

  • RadioShack calls on mobile category to strengthen business

    FORT WORTH, Texas — Comparable-store sales were flat at RadioShack for the second quarter, as the company is still waiting for new strategic initiatives to pay off. The one bright spot is the mobile category, which had a 3.3% comps increase at U.S. RadioShack company-operated stores. Total net sales and operating revenue of $953.2 million, an increase of 1.2% versus last year.

    Net loss for the quarter was $21 million, or 21 cents per diluted share, compared with net income of $24.9 million, or 24 cents per diluted share, last year.

  • Cabela's beats Street with Q2 results; announces openings in Michigan and Alaska

    Sidney, Neb. -- Outdoor-gear retailer Cabela's Inc. reported Thursday that net income for the second quarter increased to $33.9 million, from $21.7 million in the year-ago period.

    Total revenue rose 11.6% to $627.3 million, boosted by a 17% rise in retail store revenue – to $384.7 million. Analysts forecasted total revenue of $606.3 million.

    Same-store sales increased 4.7%.

  • JCPenney gets extra cash with sale of real estate assets

    PLANO, Texas — JCPenney has sold its interest in Simon Property Group, L.P. back to Simon Property Group Inc. for $248 million in cash, helping the company get back on financial track.

  • Supervalu extends mobile couponing app to independent stores

    LOS ANGELES — Supervalu is making the mobile couponing app, Yowza!! available to more than 1900 independent stores. The new alliance means independent retailers supplied by Supervalu have the opportunity to offer the free Yowza!! app to their shoppers to receive real-time savings on in-store purchases.

  • Visa, Mastercard settlement settled nothing

    Walmart added its sizable voice to the growing ranks of those opposed to a settlement regarding transaction fees charged by Visa and MasterCard.
