  • Nineties Nostalgia, Retail IT Style

    I recently had the opportunity to engage in a little 1990s nostalgia by attending a package concert featuring a variety of popular bands from that decade such as Gin Blossoms, Smash Mouth and Sugar Ray. It was a chance to envelop myself in the sights and sounds of a bygone era that stays close to my heart as what some call a “Gen Xer.”

  • Marc Jacobs opens debut beauty store

    New York City -- Fashion retailer Marc Jacobs will enter the beauty category with his first store dedicated to cosmetics and beauty items.

    The nearly 500-sq.-ft. store has opened at 385 Bleecker Street in Manhattan and, according to a Women’s Wear Daily report, will showcase the designer’s 121-SKU color cosmetics collection, as well as his fragrances with Coty Prestige. 


  • Soft sales don't deter Advance Auto's expansion agenda

    Advance Auto Parts announced plans to open its 4,000th store on Friday, one day after reporting disappointing sales at its 3,999 locations.

    Total sales for the second quarter increased 6.1% to $1.55 billion due largely to the addition of 175 new locations. However, same store sales declined 0.3% on top of a prior year decline of 2.7%.

  • RadioShack opens concept stores, unveils ‘low touch’ format

    Fort Worth, Texas – RadioShack has opened two new concept stores in the New York area, bringing the total number there to three. In addition, the retailer is unveiling a new “low touch” concept store format that it has opened in Manhattan Mall in New York and Plaza Las Americas in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, last month, and will open in downtown Fort Worth in October of this year.

  • AT&T, LaGrange, Ill.

    AT&T has transformed its store in LaGrange, Ill., to a new look that the company is rolling out at new and redesigned stores nationwide. Focused on the customer experience, the store is designed to create a more interactive and inviting store environment. Many of the elements (design and merchandising) were introduced at AT&T’s flagship on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

  • Holiday Stationstores Announces Expansion in Dakotas

    MinneapolisHoliday Stationstores has reached an agreement with I-90 Fuel Services to convert 16 of The Gas Stop convenience stores to Holiday Stationstores, expanding the Holiday brand in the South Dakota and Southwestern Minnesota markets.

    The Gas Stop stores making the conversion are located in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Brandon, Mitchell, Mobridge, Pierre and Volga, South Dakota. The Minnesota stores are in Luverne and Worthington.

     

  • Cabela’s uses mobile payments in loyalty promotion

    McLean, Va. – Cabela’s used mobile payment processing software from Sage Payment Solutions at seven recent Family Outdoor Days events for holders of its Cabela’s Club Visa card. Sage Mobile Payments was successfully deployed at the Dilliner, Pa., Berlin, Wis., Puyallup, Wash., and Billings, Mont. Family Outdoor Days on June 1, June 20, July 13 and July 27, respectively. The three remaining Family Outdoor Days events will occur in Prior Lake, Minn., on Aug. 10, Cedar Fort, Utah, on Aug. 24, and Kearney, Neb., on Sept. 28.

  • Dunkin' Donuts to add eight units in Rochester, N.Y.

    Canton, Mass. -- Dunkin' Donuts said it will open eight new restaurants in Rochester, N.Y., via a multi-unit store development agreement executed with existing franchisee Luis Ribeiro.

    Ribeiro currently owns 25 of the 61 Dunkin' Donuts in the Greater Rochester area.  

    "We expect 10 to 20 new Dunkin' Donuts restaurants to open in Rochester over the next few years," said Grant Benson, VP franchising and business development, Dunkin' Brands.
