  • Bi-Lo and Harris Teeter to buy select Piggly Wiggly stores

    Bi-Lo Holdings and Harris Teeter announced plans to acquire select Piggly Wiggly-branded stores. Bi-Lo plans to acquire 22 Piggly Wiggly stores in South Carolina and coastal Georgia. Harris Teeter plans to purchase six locations and a future store location in the Charleston, S.C., area.

  • David Yurman opens boutique in Troy, Mich.

    New York – David Yurman opens a new boutique at The Somerset Collection in Troy, Mich., today. Architectural firm Gabellini Sheppard Associates designed the 1,506-sq.-ft. location.

  • Verizon: Mobile, cloud among leading holiday retail IT trends

    New York – Cloud-based e-commerce, mobile apps and mobile wallets are among the most important IT trends affecting retailers as they enter the 2013 holiday shopping season.

    Verizon Communications, Inc. has compiled a list of the biggest IT trends for this year’s holiday season. Following are highlights:

  • JustFab, Glendale Galleria, Glendale, Calif.

    Online fashion subscription retailer JustFab’s first retail store brings to life the brand’s sophisticated but inviting personality and stylish attitude. The 3,000-sq.-ft. space, in the Glendale Galleria, Glendale, Calif., was designed to mirror the brand's online shopping experience, with cohesive, trend-driven collections showcased against sleek white surfaces.

  • Toys'R'Us unveils key holiday initiatives at special preview event in NYC

    Toys"R"Us held a special preview event at its flagship location in NYC's Time Square. Speaking about the company's competitive advantages as it gears up for the holiday shopping season as well as the company’s omnichannel offerings and investments being made in its mobile capabilities were EVP and chief merchandising officer Richard Barry, as well as SVP and chief digital officer Fred Argir, respectively.

  • Target receives LEED certification for 44 more Canadian stores

    Mississauga, Ontario -- Target announced that an additional 44 store locations in Canada have been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification. This means that all 68 newly launched Target locations have been awarded LEED certification, a first for a major retailer in Canada.

    Target is pursuing LEED certification for all 124 stores scheduled to open in Canada this year through the LEED Volume Program, which streamlines the certification process for buildings in both Canada and the U.S.

  • Enhanced departments, omnichannel crucial to Toys ‘R’ Us holiday plans

    Wayne, N.J. -- Toys “R” Us is updating its in-store shopping experience and expanding its omnichannel initiatives for its more important selling season. The retailer detailed its plans on Thursday at a special holiday preview event in New York City.

    Starting in October, Toys “R” Us will expand and enhance product categories that have experienced sales growth over the past few years, notably education, tablets and construction, while reducing the space dedicated to areas that have underperformed over time.

  • Online fashion subscription retailer JustFab opens its first store

    El Segundo, Calif. -- JustFab, the online fashion subscription retailer, has opened a 3,000-sq.-ft. flagship at the Glendale Galleria, Glendale, Calif. It is the company’s first physical store.

    “We have created the global leader in fashion subscription in just three short years and will now bring our customized shopping experience into physical stores to enable customers to touch and feel our products," said co-CEO Don Dom Ressler.
