  • Sears Home Appliance Showrooms rolling out new look

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Home Appliance Showrooms is rolling out a new revamped interior designed to make shopping for appliances an easier experience for consumers.

    The updated sales floor presentations include a new merchandising layout allowing showrooms to expand key lines such as built-in cooking, cooktops, and laundry, and improve customer shopping experiences with new displays of dishwashers and floor care.

  • Teavana makes debut in New York City’s Upper East Side

    Starbucks previewed the first-of-its-kind Teavana Fine Teas + Tea Bar in New York City’s Upper East Side. The tea bar offers a curated assortment of handcrafted tea beverages, premium loose leaf teas, tea-inspired food offerings and tea merchandise.

    It's been almost one year since Starbucks acquired Teavana, and the company plans to expand the new tea bar format to additional stores throughout the course of the next year.

  • Sen. Schumer, tech firms agree to location analytics code of conduct

    New York - U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer, The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and a group of location analytics companies including Euclid, iInside (a WirelessWERX company), Mexia Interactive, Solomo, Radius Networks, Brickstream and Turnstyle Solutions have agreed to a code of conduct to promote consumer privacy and responsible data use for retail location analytics.  

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop to open its first in-store shop, in FAO Schwarz

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop plans an in-store shop in the FAO Schwarz  Fifth Avenue flagship in Manhattan. Opening in early November, the location is the first Build-A-Bear Workshop store-within-a-store in the United States. (FAO Schwarz is owned by Toys “R” Us.)

  • Alco will delist if Argonne merger approved

    Coppell, Texas – Alco Stores, Inc. will voluntarily delist its common stock from the Nasdaq Stock Market on or about Oct. 31, 2013. The delisting of the company's shares is subject to stockholder approval of the proposed merger with an affiliate of Argonne Capital Group, LLC.

  • RadioShack bolsters leadership as Q3 loss widens

    RadioShack posted a net loss of $112 million during the third quarter of fiscal 2013, compared to a net loss of $47 million in the year-ago period. It was the retailer’s seventh straight quarter posting a net loss.

    The company also named Paul Rutenis, formerly senior VP, general merchandising manager for the home division of J.C. Penney Company, as its new chief merchant.

  • IDC Retail Insights’ Leslie Hand named Top Retail Influencer

    Framingham, Mass. – IDC Retail Insights research director Leslie Hand has been named to the 2013 Top 50 Retail Influencers list developed by point-of-sale, inventory and customer loyalty software provider Vend. Hand has spent the last 25-plus years in the retail technology industry, and prior to joining IDC Retail Insights was the director of global RIFD strategy for Ahold.
