    CHELMSFORD, Mass. — The Kronos Retail Labor Index released by the company on Thursday showed that retail hiring is on the rise, even as fewer people seek jobs in the retail sector.

    The Index jumped to 4.2%, up nearly 7% from last year, indicating a potential recovery in the labor market. The number of applications edged down 1.3% , which is down nearly 6% from its level one year ago, pointing to applicants seeking employment in other growing industries.

  • Express names EVP human resources

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — Express has appointed Michael Keane to the position of EVP human resources.

    Keane's extensive experience includes more than twenty years in a series of human resource leadership positions with Tween Brands, Limited Brands, Borden Foods and Whirlpool Corporation.  He most recently served as EVP human resources and stores for Tween Brands, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ascena Retail Group Inc.

    Columbus, Ohio -- Express announced today that Michael Keane has been appointed to the position of executive VP human resources.

    He most recently served as executive VP human resources & stores for Tween Brands, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ascena Retail Group.

  • Sears cuts HQ staff by 100

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — A spokesman for Sears Holdings Corp. said that the owner of Sears and Kmart stores is cutting 100 jobs at its headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

    According to Chris Brathwaite, Sears spokesman, the cuts cover a range of positions. The terminated employees were notified Thursday.

    The retailer has not said whether additional cuts are planned.

  • Survey: Retail hiring managers concerned about top-worker turnover

    Chicago -- A survey released Wednesday by WorkInRetail.com found that 45% of retail hiring managers are concerned that their top workers will leave the organization in 2012.

    WorkInRetail.com, CareerBuilder’s job site for retail professionals, polled 247 retail hiring managers and 654 full-time retail employees in November and December 2011. The survey was conducted by Harris Interactive.

  • Checkers and Rally’s team with JobApp to drive operational efficiencies

    Bloomfield Hills, Mich. -- Talent management technology-provider JobApp Network said that Checkers Drive-In Restaurants is utilizing its services to up its talent quotient and reduce turnover.

    According to JobApp, after less than nine months of utilizing its core talent acquisition solution, Checkers’ own internal analysis showed a 40.9% reduction in restaurant team member turnover. And, said JobApp, turnover results from the team members at JobApp restaurants were significantly better compared to Checkers’ control group restaurants.
