  • Walmart enhances shopping experience with new mobile apps

    SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Walmart is looking to offer shoppers ways to access Walmart both in-store and online with the launch of new mobile applications for iPhone and iPad devices.

    Walmart said the free apps are the first of several mobile products to be rolled out from the recently formed @WalmartLabs group under Walmart's global e-commerce unit.

    The updated iPhone app includes such new features as:

    • Voice: Users can add items to shopping list by speaking, typing or scanning bar codes;

  • Uniqlo keeps checkout line moving with queuing system

    New York City -- Uniqlo, the fast-growing apparel retailer from Japan, has implemented queue management systems from Lawrence, a Tensator Group Company, at its two new flagships in New York City (Fifth Avenue and 34th Street).

    The custom-designed sleek, stainless steel Tensabarrier guidance system is designed to echo the ultra-modern store interior while helping guide customers easily through the checkout process and increase efficiencies in customer flow.

  • Old Navy joins network to reward customers for store visits

    PALO ALTO, Calif. — Old Navy has become the latest retailer to partner with Shopkick, a shopping mobile app that rewards shoppers for walking into stores. Customers who have the shopkick app on their smartphones will be able to receive walk-in rewards at any of Old Navy's nearly 1,000 U.S. locations, Shopkick reported. To celebrate, Old Navy will offer $10 off of a $40 purchase plus 150 Shopkick reward points for the partnership's first weekend (Nov.

  • Macy’s Q3 earnings surge, announces plans for three new stores

    Cincinnati -- Macy's net income surged in the third quarter amid strong sales. The retailer on Wednesday also raised its full-year profit outlook and announced plans to build two new stores in New York and one in California.

    Macy's earned $139 million for the three months ended Oct. 29, up from $10 million, in the same period last year. Revenue increased 4.1% to $5.85 billion. Same-store sales rose 4%.

  • ComScore: Online spending up 13% to $36 billion in Q3

    Reston, Va. -- Online retail spending reached $36.3 billion for the third quarter of 2911, up 13% versus year ago, according to comScore. This growth rate represented the eighth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates.

  • Amazon shows support for proposed online sales tax bill

    SEATTLE — Amazon.com announced that it supports the federal bill introduced this morning by United States Senators Enzi, Durbin, and Alexander, that would create a constitutional framework for collecting sales tax online.

  • More stores in Macy's pipeline, 3Q comps up 4%

    CINCINNATI — Macy's Inc. reported that earnings were 32 cents per diluted share for the third quarter of 2011, ended Oct. 29, compared with earnings of 2 cents per diluted share in last year's third quarter, or 8 cents per diluted share in last year's third quarter excluding expenses of 6 cents per share associated with the repurchase of debt.
