  • Nordstrom expands e-commerce edge with second investment

    Seattle -- Nordstrom Inc. revealed Thursday that it is leading a $16.4 million investment round in online men’s apparel brand Bonobos. The announcement follows last year’s purchase of online private sale site HauteLook, giving Nordstrom another leg up in the e-commerce arena.

    Nordstrom is selling the Bonobos label's clothing at its stores and online. Bonobos is the largest apparel brand launched on the internet in the United States.

  • Container Store to implement Alliance database marketing

    Dallas -- The Container Store said Tuesday it has enlisted Epsilon, a subsidiary of marketing solution-provider Alliance Data Systems Corp., for comprehensive data and database marketing services.

    The services are designed to fuel marketing efforts to acquire and retain customers and increase sales.

  • Summer Light Spectacular

    At Westfield San Francisco Centre, a nightly light show projected onto the mall’s iconic dome is expected to be a huge draw.

    The center, owned by Westfield, will be showcasing a one-of-a-kind animated 3D light spectacular, called The Heart of San Francisco, which will run nightly on Level 4 Under the Dome from June 15 through July 31.

    Featuring iconic San Francisco images, the free show will be projected on the Centre’s 102-ft.-wide dome and set to a collection of San Francisco songs.

    San Francisco -- Sephora on Monday unveiled its social and mobile makeover, which includes a new personalized web experience, new mobile website, iPhone app and iOS devices in over 100 stores.

  • GNC launches new app for Android and iPhones

    Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings announced the release of its new iPhone application and introduction to Android Market. The application will follow GNC's successful entry into the smartphone marketplace with its March 2011 launch of the GNC iPhone application, which has received more than 100,000 downloads to date.

    In addition to including even more mobile commerce features, the new app features health and wellness resources.

  • The future of electronic payments

    In the 1950s, when science fiction writers dreamed about the coming age of computers, they assumed that like everything else in their experience, computers would get ever larger as they got more powerful. Some predicted computers would be as big as small towns, maintained by thousands of workers.

    Obviously, extrapolating from what you know isn’t always the best way to predict the future. It fails to account for the unexpected invention or idea that turns everything on its head.
