  • Consumer electronics lose sales power in 2012

    PORT WASHINGTON — Despite a plethora of constantly changing products, the consumer technology industry saw its sales decline 2% in 2012, according to The NPD Group. This is on top of the less than 1% drop in 2011. Since 2010, consumer technology sales have declined by $4 billion.

  • Galeries Lafayette selects VeriFone for payment solutions

    San Jose, Calif. -- Verifone Systems said Tuesday that it has secured a deal with French department store chain Galeries Lafayette to handle its payment solutions and services over a five-year contract period.

    The agreement includes managed services, software, helpdesk and 3,200 of VeriFone’s VX 820 advanced PIN acceptance devices that support credit, debit and EMV transactions, and include integrated NFC/contactless technology for alternative payments.

  • GNC reports strong Q4; to open 180 stores in U.S. in 2013

    Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings is bullish on expansion. Reporting impressive results for the fourth quarter, the retailer plans to open approximately 150 net new U.S. stores in 2013, along with 30 net new domestic franchise locations, and 175-200 net new international franchise locations. It also will open 30 net new GNC-Rite Aid store-within-a-store locations.

  • Unilever uses Terra Technology for optimization in Europe

    NORWALK, Conn. — Consumer goods manufacturer Unilever has implemented Terra Technology’s Demand Sensing and Multi-Enterprise Inventory Optimization solutions across Europe. These implementations are improving forecast accuracy and helping to create a more agile and efficient supply chain, contributing to significantly lower inventory and improved on-shelf availability.

  • Menchie's launches mobile app

    Encino, Calif. -- Yogurt chain Menchie’s said Friday it has launched a new mobile app, Yumm Finder, for iPhones, featuring location finder capabilities and featured promotions.

    Menchie's partnered with RAZUR, based in Atlanta, to develop and release the app.

     

  • VF posts record revenue growth

    Apparel manufacturer, VF Corp. reported that its fourth quarter 2012 revenues rose 4% (5% in constant dollars) to a record $3 billion from $2.9 billion in the same period of 2011 driven by strength in the outdoor and action sports and sportswear coalitions, and its international and direct-to-consumer businesses. The sale of John Varvatos in April 2012 negatively impacted VF’s revenue growth by 1 percentage point in the fourth quarter.

  • Nielsen global survey finds views of economy improving, but gloom remains

    New York -- Bad feelings about the global economy persist, with more than half of consumers around the world say the world is in an economic recession, according to a new study by Nielsen.

    According to the Nielsen Global Survey of Consumer Confidence and Spending Intentions, 71% of North Americans said they were in a recession in the fourth-quarter of 2012, but this represented a drop in 15 percentage points from the fourth quarter 2011, representing the largest drop in negative sentiments about the economy of any area.
