  • 2014 sees upturn in consumer confidence

    The new year is off to a solid start with an upturn in consumer confidence. After two months of decline in the wake of the partial government shutdown, the Conference Board has found that consumer confidence has bounced back to its highest level since September.

    December's index came in at 78.1, up from an upwardly revised figure of 72.0 in November and 72.4 in October.

  • Restaurant performance picks up in November

    Washington, D.C. -- Driven by improving same-store sales and customer traffic levels, the National Restaurant Association's Restaurant Performance Index (RPI) hit a five-month high in November 2013. The RPI, a monthly composite index that tracks the health of and outlook for the U.S. restaurant industry, stood at 101.2 in November, up 0.3% from October and the strongest level since June.

  • Report – Coupons.com to acquire loyalty provider Yub, considers IPO

    Mountain View, Calif. — Coupons.com is reportedly going to acquire Yub, a provider of mobile rewards and offers that customers redeem at brick-and-mortar stores. According to the Wall Street Journal, Coupons.com will pay $30 million for Yub, and is also considering an IPO.

  • FSI activity continues to trump digital

    Digital coupons may get all the publicity, but SmartSource isn’t buying the hype as evidenced by what it said was a record-setting coupon drop on Sunday, January 5.

    Parent company News America Marketing said the Sunday, January 5 edition of its SmartSource publication was the largest in its history with up to three inserts required in some markets to deliver up to 136 pages of coupons.

  • Coinbase releases Bitcoin apps for POS, Android

    San Francisco – Bitcoin digital wallet service Coinbase is releasing two new apps intended to spread the acceptance of Bitcoin payment by retailers. The Coinbase Merchant application handles POS functionality, including offline, while Coinbase for Android 2.0 features a new UI along with improved speed, reliability, and ease of use.

  • Egg indicator shows prices up

    The nation’s largest egg producer said premium prices for specialty products and an acquisition allowed it to growth sales and nearly double profits during its second quarter.

  • Amazon adds one million new Prime members in third week of Dec.

    Seattle — More than one million customers around the world joined the Amazon Prime membership program in the third week of December. The entire 2013 holiday season was the best ever for Amazon, with more than 36.8 million items ordered worldwide on Cyber Monday, or 426 items per second.
