  • Moody’s: Physical stores key to retailers’ online growth strategy

    New York -- A physical store presence is key to most retailers for their online growth strategy, according to a new report by Moody’s Investor Services. Based on existing data, Moody’s estimate online sales as a percent of total retail sales are just 6% today, and will increase to 7.1% by 2016, and potentially reach a double-digit (mid-teens) share of the total retail sales pie in about five years.

  • Loblaw selects SAP omnichannel solution

    Toronto – Loblaw Companies Ltd. has selected the SAP Store Device Control by GK software solution marketed by SAP. This product offers the infrastructure to control stores in an omnichannel commerce architecture.

    GK Software US Inc. will handle the implementation of the software in this project.
     

     

  • Study: Retailers lag in omnichannel capabilities

    Austin, Texas - Retailers have barely reached the halfway mark in their journey to omnichannel maturity. According to the results of a new report from Starmount and Retail Systems Research (RSR) that asked retailers to rate themselves on six dimensions of omnichannel maturity, the lowest overall rankings (an average score of 2.7 on a six-point scale) were in omnichannel order and fulfillment capabilities.

    In addition, 67% of retailers were “inefficient” or worse at integrating in-store and digital experiences. Other findings include:

  • Taxware merges with Convey

    Wilmington, Mass. - Taxware, a global provider of indirect tax software, managed services, and regulatory content is merging with Convey Compliance Systems, a private third-party filer of 1099 forms. With the backing of Vista Equity Partners, the two companies will leverage their complementary tax compliance solutions to create a capability for addressing wide-ranging client needs for tax technology and services.

  • Twitter rolls out AdParlor

    Twitter has released a full suite of targeting, creative and measurement tools to enable advertisers to promote their mobile apps through the new Mobile App Promotion (MAP) product. For marketers, this means a native ad unit users can use to install apps directly from the Twitter timeline.

  • Circuit City CEO and CarMax founder passes away

    Richard Sharp, 67, the long-time CEO of Circuit City who founded used car retailer CarMax has died of Alzheimer’s disease at his home near Richmond, Virginia.

    Sharp joined Circuit City in 1982 and served as CEO of the company from 1986 to 2000. Under his leadership, Circuit City enjoyed meteoric growth with sales that increased from $175 million in 1986 to more than $10 billion by 2000. Eight years after he had left the company, Circuit City filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and the following year was liquidated.

  • Survey: Screening uncovers resume lies

    Charlotte, N.C. – More than nine-in-10 (93%) retailers who have conducted background screening of job applicants have discovered lies on resumes. According to the 2014 HireRight Employee Screening Benchmark Report, 71% of retailers said background screening uncovers issues that would not have been otherwise found.

    San Jose, Calif. – Adobe is releasing Adobe Target Premium, a new personalization solution that leverages predictive technology to deliver automated decisioning. Adobe Target Premium is part of the Adobe Marketing Cloud.

    Houston -- Hungry Howie's Pizza has signed a multi-year agreement to exclusively use HungerRush Online Ordering. HungerRush is a product of Revention, which has been providing online ordering services since 2006.
