  • Stater Bros. honored for recycling efforts

    San Bernardino, Calif.  -- Stater Bros. has been recognized as a 2010 WRAP (Waste Reduction Awards Program) Winner by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). Among the supermarket operator’s accomplishments: a “green waste” composting program that turns organic waste from its 167 locations into compost that is sold to area farmers

  • Two Albertson’s stores diverting nearly all waste

    Santa Barbara, Calif. - SuperValu Inc., which owns Albertson’s, said Tuesday that two Albertson’s locations in Santa Barbara, Calif., have achieved zero waste classification in their daily operations.

  • Wal-Mart to buy 51% of South Africa’s Massmart

    Bentonville, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores announced Monday that it is buying a controlling stake in South Africa's Massmart in an approximately $2 billion deal. The investment gives the discounter a substantial presence in South Africa and paves the way for further expansion across the continent.  Wal-Mart International president and CEO Doug McMillon made clear his company is pursuing a regional strategy.

  • Tractor Supply to open new DC

    Brentwood, Texas -- Tractor Supply Co., announced plans to open a regional distribution center in Franklin, Ky.

    The new 840,000-sq.-ft. distribution center, expected to be in operation by the end of 2011, will serve stores in the mid-eastern United States.

     

  • Sbarro to open six Illinois Tollway Oases locations

    Chicago -- U.S. Equities Realty said that Sbarro will open six new quick-service Italian restaurants at the Illinois Tollway Oases.

    Sbarro restaurants will open at the Belvidere, Des Plaines, Hinsdale, Lake Forest, Lincoln and O’Hare Oases, and will vary in size from 700 sq. ft. to 1,240 sq. ft., for a total of 6,360 sq. ft.
