  • Claire’s expands into China

    Chicago -- Claire's Stores Inc. announced the recent opening of the first Claire's stores in China, in DaNing Life Hub in Shanghai. The company’s second China store will open on Dec. 7, in Grand Gateway Mall in Shanghai.

    Claire’s has entered China on an owned and operated basis and has established a new division based in Shanghai.

  • Starbucks to open 1,500 new stores in U.S. by 2017

    New York -- Starbucks Coffee Co. is moving ahead full-steam. The company on Wednesday announced accelerated global growth plans that include opening at least 1,500 stores in the United States during the next five years. Including Canada and South America in the mix, Starbucks expects to add a total of 3,000 new locations in its Americas region — and renovate thousands more — by 2017.

  • Carriers consolidate to enhance southern services

    The Arnold Transportation division of U.S. Xpress Enterprises will merge with LinkAmerica Corp. to create a trucking company with 1,400 vehicles, 5,000 trailers and 1,800 drivers.

    The combined company will operate under the Arnold name and will be jointly owned and operated by Arnold parent company U.S. Xpress and LinkAmerica’s private equity owner Tenex Capital Management.

    The deal extends Arnold's dominance in the regional market with increased capacity and a service footprint that expands to new geographies in southern states.

  • Accessories chain expands global footprint

    Claire’s Stores has opened its first two stores in China, giving the leading retailer of jewelry and accessories a worldwide presence in 39 countries with nearly 3,500 locations.

    The company said it opened stores in the DaNing Life Hub and Grand Gateway Mall in Shanghai and indicated that China represents a significant market opportunity for the Claire's brand. 

  • Leading paint retailer opens 3,500th location

     

    Add Sherwin-Williams to the list of retailers celebrating store expansion milestones this year.

    Dollar General opened its 10,000th location earlier in the year, followed by the 5,000th AutoZone store and more recently Walgreens opened its 8,000th store. Now, Sherwin-Williams has opened its 3,500 stores in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. The 4,000-sq.-ft. store is the 70th retail location the company has opened this year and its 147th location in California.

  • Coke and Select Milk team up to offer power shake

    ATLANTA — The Coca-Cola Company and Select Milk Producers have teamed up to acquire the newly created Fair Oaks Farms Brands, which owns and operates Core Power, a high protein milkshake.

    With the Fair Oaks Farms Brands, the Coca-Cola Company and Select will expand an ever-growing portfolio of brands and products, which will now feature dairy.

  • Transplace takes on Canada with new deal

    Leading third party logistic provider Transplace has acquired Canada’s Torus Freight Systems.

    Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, acquired for an undisclosed sum Torus Freight Systems, a Canadian-based logistics services company focused on Canadian cross-border and intra-Canada freight.

  • Wingstop to open 50 Russia locations

    Richardson, Texas -- Chain restaurant Wingstop announced Tuesday it has executed a master development deal that will facilitate about 50 unit openings in Russia, the first opening in Moscow.

    The chicken wing purveyor -- with more than 530 locations throughout the U.S. and Mexico -- signed a master development agreement with Baxtor Limited for 50 Wingstop restaurants to be opened throughout Russia over the next 10 years.

    The first location is expected to open in Moscow by the end of 2013.
