  • Metro PCS, Dollar General join Torrington Plaza

    Torrington, Conn. -- Centro Properties Group said that two retailers, Metro PCS and Dollar General, have joined Torrington Plaza, located in Torrington, Conn.

    Metro PCS recently opened and currently occupies 1,200 sq. ft. Dollar General has executed a lease and will be occupying 11,000 sq. ft. in the shopping center.

    Torrington Plaza is owned and operated by New York City-based Centro.
     

  • Starbucks announces management changes

    Seattle -- Starbucks said Monday that it is dividing responsibilities for its business into three global regions (instead of the current two, U.S. and international) in order to accelerate global growth.

    The company has appointed three of its executives to lead the three regions: Asia; the Americas: and the combination of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

    Cliff Burrows will expand his current role as president, Starbucks U.S. to president, Americas, with responsibility for the United States, Canada, Mexico and Latin America.

  • Cal-Maine Foods names VP operations

    JACKSON, Miss. — Cal-Maine Foods announced that the company has named Todd Walters VP operations, effective July 11. Walters will have responsibility for all of Cal-Maine Foods’ production and processing facilities located in Texas.

  • Bartell Drugs taps KSS Retail for price optimization

    Cincinnati -- Bartell Drugs has selected KSS Retail, a global supplier of price modeling, optimization, and customer insight solutions for the retail industry, as its provider for price modeling and optimization.

    “We chose KSS Retail because we know Price Optimization will allow us to better understand what’s important to our shoppers, which will help us deliver the value they’ve come to expect.” said Ron Miller, senior VP merchandising at Bartell Drugs, which operates 58 stores in Washington State.

  • People moves in logistics land

    Greatwide Logistics named a new CEO, and YRC Worldwide named a new SVP on Monday.

    Greatwide said John Tague would serve as CEO, replacing Leo Suggs who is retiring, but will continue to serve as chairman. Tague previously served as president of United Airlines and also held the position of COO and chief revenue office during his eight years with the airline.

  • Old Navy closing in on 300th remodel; new design driving higher customer transaction

    San Francisco -- Old Navy will complete its 300th remodeled store in mid-July as it continues to overhaul its entire chain. The design has a racetrack layout and features improved visual merchandising with light wood and white shelving, walls and backdrops that spotlight the core Old Navy product categories.   • Weis Markets freezes prices again

    SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets announced it has lowered the prices on 1,600 staple items and that it will freeze these new lower prices for ninety days through Oct. 8.  It is the company's seventh 90-day price freeze program over the past two and a half years.

  • Macy’s names new VP merchandising

    Cincinnati -- Macy’s announced that Steven Derwoed has been appointed VP merchandising for the Macy’s Store Planning and Design group (SPACE).

    Prior to joining Macy’s, Derwoed served as principal in the New York office of Callison Architects and partner, VP design at RYA Design Consultancy.
