  • Profit amplifier adds IT exec to board

    Veteran information technology executive Joe Zucchero has joined the board of advisors at big data solutions provider Profitect.

    Profitect said Zucchero’s expertise in IT operations, cross-organizational implementation, and an understanding of the technology needs of the retail industry aligned perfectly with the company’s suite of solutions.

  • Walmart’s Black Friday deals to start at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Walmart will start unveiling its Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving at 6 p.m., which is two hours earlier than last year, and stagger them throughout the night and all Black Friday weekend. The retailer is also offering a special incentive to employees who work on Thanksgiving Day: a 25% discount on an entire purchase this holiday season."

  • Made in Memphis: Electrolux begins production in Tenn. Facility

    Electrolux North America has recently begun production on its first Memphis, Tenn.-made home cooking appliances.

    The inaugural products produced at the Memphis facility, the Frigidaire and Frigidaire Gallery slide–in ranges, rolled off the assembly line, were crated and loaded onto trucks for warehousing and retail distribution throughout the United States. This marks the culmination of a two-year construction effort of the $266 million facility.

  • To ITO or Not to ITO: Retailers Ask the Question

    Information technology outsourcing (ITO) enables organizations to cut labor and infrastructure costs, improve operating efficiencies and increase flexibility in the IT department. Although certain aspects of retailing are ideally suited to out-of-house automation via ITO, the retail industry as a whole has not embraced ITO as much as some other industries.

  • Retro Fitness and Chipotle sign at West Orange Plaza

    West Orange, N.J. — Retro Fitness and Chipotle have signed long-term leases at West Orange Plaza in West Orange, N.J., according to Levin Management, which represented the landlord in the transaction.

    Retro Fitness took 14,115 sq. ft. and was represented by Katz & Associates. Represented by Winick Realty Group, Chipotle leased 2,557 sq. ft.

  • Sears sells real estate in Canada

    Sears Canada announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with Montez Income Properties Corp. to sell its 50% joint venture interest in eight properties it owns with The Westcliff Group of Companies for approximately $315 million.  

  • Amazon teams up with U.S. Postal Service for Sunday deliveries

    New York -- Amazon is teaming up with the U.S. Postal Service to deliver packages on Sunday, with the service starting this week in the Los Angeles and New York metro areas. The online giant plans to roll out the service to additional markets, including Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, and Phoenix, in 2014.

    Amazon Prime members, who receive unlimited, free two-day shipping, are eligible for the service.

  • Sears Canada to sell stake in eight properties

    New York -- Sears Canada announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to sell its 50% joint venture interest in eight properties it owns to Montez Income Properties Corp. for approximately $300 million (C$315 million). Sears’ joint venture partner in the properties is The Westcliff Group of Companies.

    The company said it will sell its interests in four regional shopping centers, two strip centers and two open-air retail centers.
