  • Staples extends CommerceHub partnership

    Framingham, Mass. - Staples has negotiated a multi-year contract with CommerceHub, extending its decade-long partnership with the virtual inventory platform.

    “CommerceHub’s platform and service are reliable and invaluable assets in helping Staples effectively expand inventory, manage suppliers and coordinate fulfillment,” said Peter Scala, senior VP e-commerce. “Our continuing partnership is essential to maintaining successful operations as Staples continues to develop its Staples Exchange marketplace platform.”

  • Amazon sellers set a record in 2014

    The more than 2 million sellers who comprise the Amazon Marketplace sold more than 2 billion items worldwide in 2014, as more and more businesses relied on the retail giant’s fulfillment capabilities.

    Marketplace transactions accounted for 40 percent of all products sold through the retail giant last year, the company announced. Also, the number of items sold by Marketplace sellers doubled from 2013 even though the number of Amazon sellers remained the same.

  • Epicor completes acquisition of ShopVisible

    Austin, Texas -- Epicor Software Corporation announced that it has completed its acquisition of privately held ShopVisible, a provider of cloud retail order management and digital commerce solutions.

  • Communication Breakdown: Consistent Shopping Experience Affects In-Store Sales

    Black Friday traditionally marks the first day of the holiday shopping season. During the most recent holiday season, millions of Americans have participated in the shopping frenzy, which according to CMO.com, accounts for nearly 40% of all annual sales. Black Friday weekend alone accounted for 133 million American shoppers, diving deep into discounts, hoping to land the best deal and get a head start on their holiday shopping.

  • End of the line for Bottom Dollar Food

    It's official: Bottom Dollar Food will close its 66 store locations in the greater Philadelphia and greater Pittsburgh markets by Jan. 15 and retire the banner's operations.

    In November, Delhaize Group — the parent company of Bottom Dollar Food — announced the sale of Bottom Dollar's stores and associated lease liabilities to ALDI Inc., which has expressed an interest in growing its U.S. footprint.

  • Survey: Restaurant operators show optimism

    Washington, D.C. – Restaurant operators continued to hold a sunny outlook even as the weather turned gray in November. The Restaurant Performance Index (RPI) – a monthly composite index that tracks the health of and outlook for the U.S. restaurant industry – stood at 102.1 in November, down slightly from its October level of 102.8.

  • Rite Aid sales surge 5.3%

    Rite Aid Corp. says sales at stores open at least a year grew 5.3% in December, boosted again by strengthening pharmacy sales. 

    Same-store sales at the Camp Hill, Pa.-based retailer grew 5.3% to $2.2. billion, beating analyst consensus of 4.5% and reflecting a 1.7% increase in front-end same-store sales and a 7.3% increase in pharmacy same-store sales.

  • Wet Seal defaults on $29 million

    Foothill Ranch, Calif. – Teen retailer Wet Seal Inc. has defaulted on a total of $28.8 million in senior convertible notes and related costs. In a regulatory filing, the struggling retailer  said it received notice of default on $27 million in notes from creditor Hudson Bay Master Fund Ltd., plus costs including attorneys’ fees and disbursements.

    Wet Seal has reached a two-week forbearance agreement with the fund, giving it until Jan. 12 to pay off the debt.
