  • CBL malls in the Midwest give back through National Random Acts of Kindness Week

    Chattanooga, Tenn.-based CBL & Associates Properties said that eleven of its malls in the Midwestern U.S. handed out 6,000 gifts during National Random Acts of Kindness week, Feb. 14-20.

    The program is designed to give back to the community and support local nonprofit groups.

  • VF Corp. has big plans for the next five years

    NEW YORK -- VF Corp., whose stable of banners includes Vans and The North Face, announced an aggressive growth, including plans to open 400 U.S. stores across its various brands during the next five years. The company discussed these plans and more at an investor conference held recently in New York City.

    In addition to the U.S. expansion, VF is looking to open some 225 stores in Europe and 80 in Asia. The expansion is expected to bring the company’s global store count to 1,500 units.

  • Survey: Majority of New Yorkers would shop at Walmart

    New York City -- A new poll released Friday finds that New Yorkers would shop at Walmart if one opened in the city. According to the Quinnipiac University poll, 68% of New Yorkers said that if it were convenient for them, they would shop at Walmart. That is compared with 29% who said they would not.

    Nearly identical numbers of people say the chain's lower prices would eat into small business sales.

    Of those polled, 57% say they think elected officials should allow Walmart to move into the city, while 36% do not.

  • Fruity Sensa offering hits market

    MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Shortly after announcing the launch of its weight-loss system for men, Sensa is introducing a fruity lineup of energy enhanced vitamin drinks.

    Sensa Quench, available in orange crush, pink grapefruit and berry splash flavors, is a sugar-free drink mix that when added to 12-oz. of water, includes a powerful blend of natural ingredients to energize, help increase the metabolism and hydrate, according to the company.

    The Sensa Quench weight-loss system is available in a 30-pack for $39.95.

  • Marimekko to open U.S. flagship

    New York City -- Finnish retailer Marimekko will open a flagship in Manhattan this fall. The company is also expanding its collaboration with Crate & Barrel.

    The 4,000-sq.-ft. store will feature Marimekko’s wide-ranging product mix, which includes furnishings fabrics, home goods, apparel and accessories. It will be designed by the Japanese architectural firm IMA.

    Consumers today are smarter and savvier than ever. Over the past decade, the continually growing use of the Internet has made it easier and faster to comparison shop. During the “Great Recession,” shoppers learned to lean even more heavily on the Web to do research and find good deals. Now, as the economy recovers, these sharp consumers are not about to go back to their old ways. In addition, future technology advances will only make it easier for consumers to comparison shop. So what’s a retailer to do?

  • American Apparel delays 2010 filing

    New York City -- American Apparel, which has yet to disclose certified financial results for 2009, has now delayed the filing of its 2010 annual report because it needs time to complete “reviews and analyses” of reports for both years. 

    The troubled retailer, whose founder and CEO Dov Charney was recently accused in a $260 million suit of using a former employee as a sex slave, did admit it expects to register losses for 2010, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

  • United Commercial Realty names SVP

    DALLAS – United Commercial Realty has named Robert Luleff as SVP. Robert is well respected in retail real estate and has consistently been a top performer in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. 

    Luleff will join UCR’s retail services platform and will be instrumental in serving both the company’s institutional shopping center owner clients and 100+ national and regional retail clients.  Currently, he is handling the office product project leasing at Southlake Town Square, as well as various leasing assignments in the DFW area.
