  • Ascena appoints senior VP

    Suffern, N.Y. -- Ascena Retail Group said that Jay S. Levine has been appointed senior VP, chief accounting officer and corporate controller of Ascena Retail Group with responsibilities for SEC reporting, financial planning and analysis, internal controls and corporate taxes.

    Ascena operates 2,478 stores under its, Dressbarn, Maurices and Justice banners.

  • A&P highlights Kosher offerings for Passover holiday

    MONTVALE, N.J. — Grocer A&P has kicked off a new initiative to expand its Kosher product offerings in time for the Passover holiday season.

    From now through April 28, Passover shoppers at select A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum's and Food Emporium stores serving Jewish communities throughout the tri-state area will find new and improved Kosher grocery selections, the retailer stated. Enhanced offerings include Kosher prepared foods and deli meats.

  • McDonald’s and its franchisees to hire up to 50,000 employees in one-day blitz

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald's Corp. and its franchisees plans to hire as many as 50,000 new U.S. employees -- ranging from restaurant crew to managers -- on April 19. The one-day event will seek to bring in and hire a combination of both full- and part-time positions in close to 14,000 U.S. restaurants nationwide, increasing the company's U.S. work force by 7.7% to 700,000, but such hiring is typical in the lead up to the busy summer months.

  • Breach of trust

    NEW YORK -- If consumers were hesitant about providing personal information to retailers, they have even more reason to be paranoid as marketing firm Epsilon reported a number of breaches at several of its clients.

  • Target is number two

    The 2011 edition of Interbrand’s Best Retail Brands report again lists Target in the second position with a value of $23.3 billion in between number-one-ranked Walmart at $142 billion and third-ranked Home Depot at $20.3 billion.

  • Earth Day is in the bag

    Target plans to give away one million reusable shopping bags on Sunday, April 17 in line with the release of its weekly ad featuring an assortment of environmentally-friendly products in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22.

  • Furniture First selects TD Retail Card Services for private label credit services

    Mahwah, N.J. -- TD Retail Card Services announced that it has been selected as a preferred provider of private label credit services for members of Furniture First, a home furnishings and mattress purchasing cooperative with more than 175 retail furniture dealers operating over 360 locations nationwide.

    Under the agreement, the Mahwah, N.J-based business unit of TD Bank, N.A., will offer a full range of private label credit products and services, custom financing options and special benefits to participating members of the co-op.

  • SheaMoisture coming to Walgreens

    AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — Sundial has announced that Walgreens has become the exclusive national drug store retail partner for its SheaMoisture hair care line and will carry the products on shelf and online, beginning April 1.

    "We are very excited to launch our newest collection at Walgreens," stated Richelieu Dennis, founder and CEO of Sundial Creations, maker of SheaMoisture. "They have been a key partner in the growth of our business and we are enthusiastic about bringing organic hair care products to such a broad consumer base."
