  • Kohl's delivers strong earnings in Q2

    MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Strong private brand performance and smarter expense management helped Kohl's deliver a hefty earnings increase and respectable sales growth for its second quarter.

    The company reported second quarter diluted earnings per share increased 30% to $1.09. Net income for the quarter was $303 million, compared with $260 million (84 cents per diluted share) a year ago. Net sales were $4.2 billion, an increase of 3.6% over the comparable prior year quarter. Comparable-store sales for the quarter increased 1.9%.

  • SRS Real Estate names senior associate

    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners announced Thursday it has hired Lenny Eterno as a senior associate in the South Florida office.

    Eterno will be focusing on the Miami Beach and downtown Miami trade areas.

    Prior to joining SRS, Eterno worked for SRS’ affiliate, Cypress AutoGroup, LLC, where he completed transactions throughout the southeast.

  • Coupon usage up, Sunday newspaper inserts still most popular source

    New York City -- When it comes to coupons, consumers still rely on the Sunday newspaper. According to consumer and media measurement firm Scarborough Research, coupon usage for household items is up 24% since 2006, with Sunday newspaper inserts ranking as the leading (49%) source for coupons, followed by in-store coupons (43%), direct mailings (33%), in-store circulars (26%), and preferred customer/loyalty card (24). And some one-fifth (22%) of consumers are utilizing digital media such as email, text messaging or Internet sites to get their household coupons,

    WASHINGTON — Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have announced a $3 million initiative designed to help D.C. residents get the skills and training they need to gain employment. The program will offer literacy, customer service and retail training to 2,000 District residents.

  • Finish Line releases mobile app for Apple and Android

    Indianapolis -- Shoe retailer Finish Line said Thursday it has released an e-commerce enabled app for Apple and Android that provides geo-targeted store location and real-time inventory functions.

    Based on the location of the user, the free app provides detailed store location information including address, phone number and driving directions. Once a store is selected, users have real-time visibility to the specific inventory of that store, effectively giving them remote access to view what’s on the sales floor and in the back room.
