  • J.C. Penney’s new Dallas store reflects chain’s commitment to energy

    Dallas -- J.C. Penney Co. will unveil the newest iteration of its store model with the opening of its new Dallas store in the TimberCreek Crossing shopping center on Sept. 30.

    The 105,000-sq.-ft. single-level store provides an assortment of services under one roof, including dedicated in-store environments for MNG by Mango and a 1,700-sq.-ft. Sephora shop.

  • Hearst deal makes Amazon magazine subscription seller

    SEATTLE and NEW YORK — While the threat of having to collect state sales tax still looms, Amazon.com continues to find new revenue sources. The company announced Tuesday that it will become the largest third-party seller of Hearst magazine subscriptions through an expanded agreement with Hearst Corp. Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN - News) and Hearst Corporation today announced that the two companies have entered into an expanded, multi-faceted consumer marketing, e-commerce and content relationship.

  • Report: Victoria’s Secret set to debut in Russia

    Moscow -- Multiple sources in Moscow on Wednesday said that Victoria’s Secret will open its first Russian store in Moscow on Sept. 30.

    According to local paper Vedomosti Business Daily, experienced American brand franchisee Moneks will open four Victoria’s Secret stores in and around Moscow prior to year’s end.

  • Women-run businesses to get boost from Wal-Mart initiative

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores on Wednesday launched initiatives intended, it says, to help women around the globe in the next five years.

    The retailer has spent the last year developing a plan -- with help from both governmental and non-governmental organizations and philanthropic groups -- which will direct $20 billion over a five- year period on goods and services from U.S. businesses owned by women, as well as double the amount it pays women-run suppliers overseas.

  • Walmart pushes mobile and social media initiatives with key acquisition

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores said Wednesday that its technology unit, @WalmartLabs, has acquired Boulder, Colo.-based mobile and social advertising firm OneRiot.

    OneRiot’s technology will become part of WalmartLabs’ mobile and social shopping efforts, allowing the retailer to hone its social media skills and develop a variety of shopping and retail-related applications.
     

  • Big Y to eliminate self-checkout

    Springfield, Mass. -- Big Y Supermarkets plans to get rid of self-checkouts in all of its 61 stores by the end of 2011.

  • Gordman’s names VP stores

    Omaha, Neb. -- Apparel and home fashions retailer Gordman’s has named Andy Lundquist  as VP stores.

    Lundquist most recently served as senior VP stores for Kohl’s Department Stores, where oversaw 270 stores generating $4 billion in revenues in 21 states.
