  • A tree grows with Ikea

    CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Ikea announced that on Oct. 1, its U.S. stores will give away free tree seedlings through its partnership with American Forests. Ikea has been partnering with American Forests since 1998, and through their "Plant a Tree" campaign, they have raised $1.9 million dollars to plant 1.9 million trees.

  • Office Depot opening new store in Austin

    New York City -- Office Depot will celebrate the grand opening of its new store in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 27.

    The new store features a number of upgrades designed with the customer in mind, including colorful and clear signage, and carpeted floors for a warmer feel. The floor plan is simple to navigate with a layout that is intuitive, logical and convenient for the customer to shop.

  • Kroger features employee breast cancer survivors in new campaign

    CINCINNATI — Kroger has committed $3 million in donations for local breast cancer initiatives across the country to support National Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, the grocer announced Monday.

    "We are honored that so many of our courageous associates are willing to share their experiences as breast cancer survivors," stated David Dillon, Kroger's chairman and CEO. "Their inspirational stories educate and encourage others to better care for each other and their own health."

  • Macy’s to increase holiday hires by 4%

    Cincinnati -- Macy’s said it plans to hire approximately 78,000 seasonal associates for its Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide for the 2011 holiday season. The total is up about 4% from the approximately 75,000 seasonal associates the chain hired last year.

    “We expect additional hiring this year given the continued sales growth in our business – both in-store and online,” said Terry J. Lundgren, Macy’s, chairman, president and CEO.

  • BJ's picnics raise breast cancer awareness

    WESTBOROUGH, Mass. —  BJ's Wholesale Club announced that it is partnering with 13 of the country's leading cancer centers to host picnic luncheons to educate guests about breast cancer. This is the sixth year BJ's is hosting these "Pink Picnic" events, which will feature a doctor or specialist from a partner hospital and an inspirational speaker, who will share her experience with the disease, the company reported.

  • Town Shoes pilots solution from Jesta

    New York City -- Jesta I.S. announced that shoe retailer Town Shoes Ltd. has implemented Jesta’s Vision Suite in a pilot store. The Canadian chain is using Jesta's Vision Mobile-Operations module to complete “in-the-aisle” stock transfers for improved customer service.

  • Design Within Reach taps TD Retail Card Services for credit card program

    Mahwah, N.J. -- North American furniture and home accessories retailer Design Within Reach has selected TD Retail Card Services to develop and administer its private label credit card for its locations in the United States.

    Under the agreement, the Mahwah, N.J.-based business unit of TD Bank, N.A., will direct all facets of the program for the retailer's 43 Studio locations.

    The new Design Within Reach credit card will offer consumers a full menu of deferred interest and equal pay programs.
