  • Dick's Sporting Goods opens two New York stores

    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners announced that Dick’s Sporting Goods has executed leases and opened stores with affiliates of Forest City Enterprises at two projects in Metro New York.

    A 49,286-sq.-ft. Dick’s opened at Forest City Ratner’s Ridge Hill project in Yonkers, N.Y., anchoring the one million-sq.-ft. center.

    A 35,685-sq.-ft. Dick’s also opened in Staten Island, in a freestanding location in front of Staten Island Mall.

  • UK beauty brand Nip + Fab comes to U.S. via Target partnership

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target has partnered U.K. beauty expert Maria Hatzistefanis and is now carrying her Nip + Fab beauty brand in Target stores and online at Target.com.

    Launched in 2010 and previously available only across the pond, Nip + Fab is now available in the United States through its partnership with Target.

    Beauty mavens can select from 14 different Nip + Fab skin solutions and body blends, including Nip + Fab Tummy Fix, Nip + Fab Pigmentation Fix and Nip + Fab Dark Circle Fix.

    Hatzistefanis also has created the Rodial beauty brand.

  • ICSC launches social media app

    New York City -- The International Council of Shopping Centers said Wednesday it has created a social media application by Mobile Fridge, allowing users to view ICSC events and trends via smartphone.

  • Price leadership not so steady

    Citigroup found that toy prices at both Walmart and Target fell by 4% and that the price gap between the two retailers on toys has narrowed since its first survey.

    According to Ciitgroup, retail prices of a basket of “hot” toys for holiday 2011 are now 30 bps cheaper at Walmart than at Target, compared with 50 bps cheaper at Walmart in its previous survey. However, taking into account Target’s 5% rewards discount, the basket of toys became 470 bps more expensive at Walmart, compared with 450 bps more expensive in the previous survey.

  • Neiman Marcus to accept Visa and MasterCard

    Dallas -- Neiman Marcus announced Thursday that it had entered into agreements with Visa and MasterCard to begin, effective Nov. 1, accepting MasterCard and Visa credit, debit and prepaid cards at all 41 Neiman Marcus stores.

    The luxury retailer had long been criticized for accepting only its private-label credit cards, American Express and cash.

    "We listened to our customers and heard that they wanted more flexibility in their payment choices," said Karen Katz, president and CEO, Neiman Marcus.
     

  • Lumber Liquidators profit soars 57.2% in Q3

    Toano, Va. -- Flooring retailer Lumber Liquidators reported Thursday that net income in the third quarter rose 57.2% to $6.7 million, compared with $4.3 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales surged 16.8% to $172 million in the quarter, and same-store sales increased 3%.

    The retailer has opened 33 new store locations in 2011, including six opened during the third quarter. It plans to open seven to nine new stores in the fourth quarter.

  • Dollar General goes on toy offensive

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General announced that it is going to head-to-head with toy retailers and discounters alike by offering more than 300 toys for $5 or less.

    "Customers will find the toys their children want at great prices at Dollar General," said Todd Vasos, Dollar General's chief merchandising officer. "We've worked hard all year to bring our shoppers an exciting toy assortment this season. Our toy department features many new toys and twice the number of licensed toys compared to previous years."

  • California female Walmart employees regroup in bias case

    San Francisco -- Four months after the Supreme Court tossed out a huge class-action lawsuit by female Walmart employees who claimed they were discriminated against by the world’s largest retailer, a smaller, regionalized group of employees has regrouped to file another gender-bias claim against Wal-Mart Stores.
